This is a pretty big developing story that's not getting nearly enough coverage here in the states. Oil prices are going up already, this could easily push them up another 20 dollars. That's not even considering Iran is threatening to close the Straight of Hormuz. The only reason for any of this is because Israel wants it. And you have "people" like Trump's lawyer, Giuliani leading chants for regime change in Iran. So continuing Trump's ambitions of declaring war on the entire world, he wants there to be sanctions on countries like India or China (just two examples out of many) who import a considerable amount of Iranian oil, just 'cause.  >:(

U.S. to end all waivers on imports of Iranian oil, crude price jumps

The United States reimposed sanctions in November on exports of Iranian oil after U.S. President Donald Trump last spring unilaterally pulled out of a 2015 accord between Iran and six world powers to curb Tehran’s nuclear program. Eight economies, including China and India, were granted waivers for six months, and several had expected those exemptions to be renewed.

Tehran remained defiant, saying it was prepared for the end of waivers, while the Revolutionary Guards repeated a threat to close the Strait of Hormuz, a major oil shipment channel in the Gulf, Iranian media reported.

...

A senior administration official said President Donald Trump was confident Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates will fulfill their pledges to compensate for the shortfall in the oil market. U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for Energy Resources Frank Fannon said Riyadh was taking “active steps” to ensure global oil markets were well supplied.

Saudi Arabian Energy Minister Khalid al-Falih, in a statement on Monday, did not commit to raising production, saying it was “monitoring the oil market developments” after the U.S. statement, and that it would coordinate with other oil producers to ensure a balanced market. OPEC is next scheduled to meet in June.

...

“Despite high and fast-rising oil prices and high geopolitical disruption risk, (Trump) is betting the farm that Saudi Arabia and the UAE will contain upward price pressure by more than offsetting Iranian oil,” said Robert McNally, president of Rapidan Energy Group, an energy consultancy.

In addition to China and India, the economies of Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Turkey, Italy and Greece had also been granted waivers.

[continues...]

So instead of doing something America First and pulling more "interest" out of the region because the US doesn't have to depend on the middle east so much anymore for oil imports, the US "regime" decides to hang the balance of world power on two countries who are members of OPEC.

Couple this with the regime change efforts in Venezuela,  the neocons are stepping up their efforts to destabilize and control the flow of oil to destroy all opposition to their power.

In the US we could see high prices like we did during the illegal Iraq war in the mid-2000s.

Pompeo Snubs Germany's Merkel To Make Surprise Iraq Visit, Cites Iran "Escalation"

It seems the White House's "maximum pressure" campaign is now in overdrive following John Bolton's announced carrier strike group and bomber deployment to the Persian Gulf region based on "troubling and escalatory" threats from Iran.

On Tuesday Secretary of State Mike Pompeo unexpectedly cancelled a meeting in Berlin with German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Foreign Minister Maas in order to make an urgent trip to Iraq, where he landed in Baghdad hours later due to reports that Iran was “escalating their activity” against US troops and assets in the region.

“I wanted to go to Baghdad to speak with the leadership there, to assure them that we stood ready to continue to ensure that Iraq was a sovereign, independent nation, and that the United States would continue to help build out partners in the region — the Jordanians, the Saudis, the Emiratis, all of the Gulf states — who want to see a free, independent, sovereign Iraq,” Pompeo said as he flew to Baghdad.

When pressed on precise nature of the Iran threat which warranted the last minute canceling his German engagements, he responded that he couldn't go into details. But clearly he was there to press Iraqi leaders on ensuring the protection of American troops, especially given Baghdad's closeness to Iran and pro-Shia militias which cooperate closely with Iraqi national forces.

However, Pompeo did note he would press the Iraqi government on pending business deals, including “big energy deals that can disconnect them from Iranian energy.” He reportedly met with Iraqi Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi in Baghdad soon after touching down Tuesday night, and then separately with President Barham Salih.

He told reporters after the meeting (and without a hint of irony) that:

“We don’t want anyone interfering in their country.”

According to Reuters:

“The message that we’ve sent to the Iranians, I hope, puts us in a position where we can deter and the Iranians will think twice about attacking American interests,” Pompeo said, noting that the U.S. intelligence was “very specific” about “attacks that were imminent.”

Crucially, it was to be Secretary of State Pompeo's first official trip to Berlin, where policy connected with Ukraine, Russia, China and Syria was to be discussed. The New York Times noted that the sudden cancellation was received as a snub of Merkel's government in Germany.

Currently the Pentagon has confirmed deployment of four B-52 bombers to the Middle East CENTCOM region of operations as well as the USS Abraham Lincoln Nimitz-class carrier group in what Bolton previously described as "a clear and unmistakable message to the Iranian regime".

Iran's leaders dismissed Bolton's words and western media hyping the ramping up of American readiness in the region as mere “psychological warfare” meant to scare and intimidate Tehran, noting further that US was using a pre-scheduled routine deployment as a mere pretext for its heightened pressure campaign.

Saudi Arabia oil output takes major hit after apparent drone attacks claimed by Yemen rebels
By Kareem Fahim and Steven Mufson
September 14, 2019 at 9:57 PM EDT

ISTANBUL — Explosions and towering fireballs struck the heart of Saudi Arabia’s oil empire on Saturday in an apparent wave of drone attacks claimed by Yemen’s Houthi rebels. The blows knocked out more than half the kingdom’s oil output for days or more and threatened to drive up already high tensions between Iran and its foes in the Persian Gulf.

The predawn blasts on facilities of the state-run oil giant Aramco — which the rebel group claimed were carried out by a fleet of 10 drones — marked one of the most devastating strikes into Saudi territory claimed by the Iranian-allied Houthis in more than four years of war in Yemen.

It was also the most serious attack on Saudi Arabia’s oil infrastructure in decades, which includes barrages of Scud missiles fired by Saddam Hussein’s forces during the 1991 Gulf War. A NASA satellite image showed what appeared to be a long streak of black smoke flowing to the southwest from the Aramco site.

...

Col. Turki bin Saleh al-Malki, a spokesman for the Saudi-led military coalition fighting in Yemen, said in a statement that physical evidence was collected but that “investigations are ongoing to determine the parties responsible for planning and executing these terrorist attacks.”

For years, the Houthi rebels have framed their cross-border missile and drone attacks as retaliatory and aimed at ending the Saudi military intervention, including Saudi airstrikes that have killed thousands of civilians.

The Houthi attacks, including on civilian airports and oil installations, have become more frequent in recent months, leading to Saudi accusations that Iran has prodded the rebels into opening a new military front during Tehran’s worsening confrontation with regional adversaries.

Oil To Hit $100? Pompeo Blames Iran For "Unprecedented" Drone Attack That Crippled Largest Saudi Oil Processing Facility
9/14/2019 - 09:41

Update 2: In a sharp, if perhaps not unexpected, escalation, US Secretary of State - now without John Bolton by his side - tweeted at 4pm on Saturday, that contrary to earlier reports, "there is no evidence the attacks came from Yemen" and instead accused Iran of launching today's "unprecedented attack on the world’s energy supply" which has now indefinitely taken offline as much as 5mmb/d in Saudi crude production.

In a follow up tweet, Pompeo said that he calls "on all nations to publicly and unequivocally condemn Iran’s attacks" which is odd as not even Saudi Arabia accused Iran of today's aggression (which many speculated could have been a Saudi false flag in hopes of sending the price of oil soaring ahead of the Aramco IPO). Pompeo concluded that "the United States will work with our partners and allies to ensure that energy markets remain well supplied and Iran is held accountable for its aggression."

Will this pivot away from Houthis to Iran as the "origin" of the attack be sufficient grounds to re-inflame tensions between the US and Iran, especially following last week's news that one of the reasons Bolton was fired was due to his hard-line stance on Iran even as Trump was willing to sit down with the Tehran regime for negotiations. Since the deep state stands to make much more money from war rather than peace, our guess is that the answer is a resounding "yes."

U.S. Blames Iran for Attack on Saudi Oil Facilities
Saudi Arabia shuts down about half its oil output after strikes

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo blamed Iran for coordinated strikes on the heart of Saudi Arabia’s oil industry, saying they marked an unprecedented attack on the world’s energy supply.

The strikes shut down half of the kingdom’s crude production on Saturday, potentially roiling petroleum prices and demonstrating the power of Iran’s proxies.

Iran-allied Houthi rebels in neighboring Yemen claimed credit for the attack, saying they sent 10 drones to strike at important facilities in Saudi Arabia’s oil-rich Eastern Province. But Mr. Pompeo said there was no evidence the strikes had come from Yemen.

In a tweet, he said the U.S. will work with allies “to ensure that energy markets remain well supplied and Iran is held accountable for its aggression.” He added that the strikes showed Iran wasn’t serious about diplomacy.
