'“Oceania” was a nation described in George Orwell’s “1984” as being comprised of Britain (called “Airstrip One,”) and the United States. There were two other superpowers, namely Eurasia and Eastasia. Other lands rich in resources were contested over, such as Africa and assumingly South America…lands never kept by any of three Super-states for any significant period. The “flux” in conquests was exactly what the MIC (Military Industrial Complex) of our time would have termed “necessary” to justify large expenditures: War as the focal purpose, rather than the exceptional event.

We see a parallel in today’s world with huge defense budgets and troop deployments keeping the contracts on the move and siphoning off a considerable amount of national revenues to keep the patriotic war machines moving…respective of each nation. The psychology: keep the population agitated and on a continual war-footing, using a “threat” (either real, created, or imagined) to accomplish this. Spam_A Spam_B You are witnessing the final alignment of those spheres of influence that are almost identical to the novel that Orwell wrote. Look at the situation with the alleged Russian poisoning of an intelligence operative and his daughter in Britain. The United States showed “solidarity” with Great Britain by expelling 60 Russian diplomats and closed the Russian consulate in Seattle, Washington. Russia countered by ordering the expulsion of an equal amount of American embassy personnel.

Yet the interesting fact is that the other nations who followed suit in the “humanitarian crusade” of the alleged Russian poisoning of former FSB agent Skripal and his daughter? The poisoning may have been done by the British, not the Russians. The U.S. State Department has made several statements to the tune that the Russians do not “see eye to eye with us or share our values of freedom and democracy.”

Really, now…in the surveillance state that inexorably draws to its conclusion with the country losing its rights while being monitored in every activity…what “values” do we have anymore?'

Doomsday AI will cause a nuclear war by 2040 that could DESTROY humanity, and there may be no way to prevent it
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-5651327/Doomsday-AI-cause-nuclear-war-2040-DESTROY-humanity.html

'A devastating nuclear war that wipes out humanity could be brought about by artificial intelligence as soon as 2040, a leading security think tank has warned.

Advances leading to 'doomsday AI' machines could encourage nations to take apocalyptic risks with their nuclear arsenals, it claims.

During the Cold War, a condition called mutually assured destruction (Mad) maintained an uneasy peace between the superpowers.

Both sides of the conflict had little incentive to launch a nuclear attack, as it would have been met by a devastating retaliation that destroyed them.

However, advances in AI may mean that this is no longer guaranteed, opening up the potential of taking out an enemy's ability to counter attack - and there may be no way to prevent such a future. Spam_A Spam_B The claims were made by the Rand Corporation, a non-profit based organisation in Santa Monica, California, that offers research and analysis to the United States armed forces on global policy issues.

It says that, in the coming decades, advances in AI could erode Mad's ability to keep nuclear nations in check.

Just like in the Cold War of the 1940s and 1950s, each side of future nuclear conflicts has reason to fear its opponent gaining a technological upper hand.

Improved AI agents, combined with more sensor and open-source data, could convince countries that their nuclear capabilities are vulnerable.

That, the report says, may cause them to take more drastic steps to keep up with countries such as the US.'

Pentagon eager to test banned missiles after discarding Cold-War-era nuke treaty
http://www.rt.com/usa/453769-pentagon-test-banned-cruise-missiles/

'The Pentagon plans to test two types of missiles banned for over 30 years under the Intermediate Nuclear Forces Treaty – reinforcing suspicions it has been preparing for this for years.

Pentagon officials outlined a plan to produce a low-flying cruise missile with a potential range of around 1,000km and a ballistic missile capable of traveling 3,000 to 4,000km. Neither would be nuclear armed, the officials said, though with no treaty to abide by, there would be little holding them back from embracing a return to a Cold-War-style arms race. The tests are scheduled for immediately after the US' official withdrawal from the INF treaty with Russia is finalized.

The cruise missile would be ready for flight-testing in August, while the longer-range projectile would be set for testing in November, according to the officials, who spoke to press on Wednesday under conditions of anonymity. A successful bid to rescue the INF Treaty could theoretically head off development of both weapons, but arms race skeptics appear to be in short supply in Washington, with even the treaty's supporters blaming Russia for breaking it with their 9M729 cruise missile – accusations the Russians have countered by pointing to the US' massive drone fleet and Tomahawk-compatible "defensive" missile systems stationed in Europe.'
