On today's day of 1993, on the proposal of the United States, the UN SC passed the resolution 808 which it decided to that an international tribunal should be established for the prosecution of persons responsible for serious violations of international humanitarian law committed in former Yugoslavia since 1991.

On this day, 2003 airport in Belgrade:

As he promised, the president of the then strongest opposition political party, the anti-globalist Serbian Radical Party ( SRS ) Vojislav Seselj traveled to the Netherlands to go to defend himself in the Hague tribunal where he was charged with (inciting) war crimes against Croats and Muslims.

Seselj is trusting the former graveyard administrator and SRS deputy Tomislav Nikolic to lead the Party, but after several years "Toma" and Aleksandar Vucic will politically bury the SRS while Seselj was in custody at The Hague.

"Milosevic wrote letter to Lavrov one day before his death"

One of Serbia's best-known and most respected lawyers, Zdenko Tomanovic, has spoken for the new issue of the magazine Nedeljnik, out this Thursday.
Thursday, August 9, 2018 | 09:37

Slobodan Milosvic in prison. Russian FM S. Lavrov

Tomanovic talked about his experiences while working as Slobodan Milosevic's legal adviser in The Hague. In the interview, the lawyer revealed how their last encounter went.
"The day before he was found dead in a cell, Milosevic asked me to come a little earlier to him in prison, and to take his hand-written letter to the Russian embassy, with the request that it be handed to Russian Minister Sergei Lavrov. In the letter, he complained that he was being poisoned in the Hague Tribunal and asked Russia to protect him and save him. A day later, Milosevic was found dead," Tomanovic - who was also the only citizen of Serbia who saw Milosevic dead in his cell - told the magazine.

First of all, I am glad that you are interested in Serbian history. 8)
Secondly, I have to start with the introduction.

In October 2000, the President of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia ( dysfunctional Federation of Serbia
and Montenegro ) , Slobodan Milosevic, was overthrown by a "colored revolution" organized by American ambassador William Montgomery ( late first first US Ambassador in "Democratic" FRY ). He wrote book about that:
https://books.google.rs/books?id=Om0OViTwCtkC&pg=PT256&lpg=PT256&dq=william+montgomery+milosevic&source=bl&ots=SbR4UamhuF&sig=o-f8FPubIJyyPP1ulgb1GomsUG4&hl=sr&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwi-0K3ogubcAhWiI8AKHfP7Cc4Q6AEwA3oECAgQAQ#v=onepage&q=william montgomery milosevic&f=false

Slobodan Milosevic-Mirjana Markovic's married couple ruled Serbia for 13 years. :-X

"Sloba" and his wife "Mira"

The pro-Western Democratic Opposition of Serbia (DOS) with the abundant help of the United States, G. Britain, Germany, George Soros ... :o

DOS, and even the greater part of the Serbian people (I did not ), expected higher wages, peace, the US will return Kosovo to Serbia, Serbia in the European Union ... ::)
However, Clinton's married couple had only tasks for Democratic President of Yugoslavia V. Kostunica and Serbian PM Z. Djindjic: to arrest former President S. Milosevic and to bring him to the "International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia" in The Hague, the Netherlands. The US has offered a $ 5 million reward for the arrest of Milosevic ( I did not know what was with that money ).

Corrupt PM Zoran Djindjic ( Democratic Party!) Has not much doubted, but it is on the old Serbian feast Vidovdan did what was ordered from Washington.   https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vidovdan
Look, this is real. Federal President and Supreme Commander of Army Kostunica publicly on State TV told
about arresting Milosevic : " I did not informed about this"  :o
I think the Serbs are more angry about that Kostunica`s statement rather the extradition of Milosevic. :o

Milosevic: " Do you know today is Vidovdan" ?  :(

Serbian PM Djindjic continue. Two day after extradition, he announced first Gay Pride in Serbia. Thanks
God that no body died.

The Serbs are disappointed in DOS and the opposition pro-Russian Serbian Radical Party ( SRS ) is gaining more and more supporters. At the head of the SRS is Dr. Seselj.  :)  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vojislav_Šešelj

Sorry, I forgot about Milosevic. "Democrats" and Liberals hard wait the judging. In fact public humiliation of Milosevic. But Milosevic was jurist and he decide to defend himself ( he had lawyers advisers ).

Serbs also hard to wait judging in ICTY because Slobodan Milosevic defend himself also defend Serbian
people. Even his opponents (among them the one I always voted against Milosevic) looked at his statements with enthusiasm and cross-examination.

"How did the people feel after he was murdered ?"
Serbian people are not so stupid that realize that ICTY is anti-Serbian Court.
I was there when Milosevic's body arrived in Belgrade. But because of the fear that his monument at the cemetery would be permanently  by Liberals, Otpor supporters, NGOs and other fans of the EU.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Otpor!

Slobodan Milosevic is buried in the yard! his house in Pozarevac with a cross above the tomb (although Milosevic was an atheist). Every year, the Party he founded comes to Milosevic's grave and lurks for a few minutes, the Socialist Party of Serbia proves that they are honest that they want to join the EU.  :P

Conclusion: Serbs want to forget Milosevic because his family, terrible 90` and his Autocratic rule.

P.S. I hope that I was not so boring.

Thanks Al for the detailed response and providing context.  You provided ample information for me to get a better understanding of major parties involved in the overthrow.   I knew very little about Milosevic so your post helps put things into perspective.

How big is the push inside of Serbia to join the EU?  You mentioned the Socialist Party of Serbia wants to join the EU.  Is that something that Democratic Opposition of Serbia (DOS) is also pushing for?

I would like to think that the SRS will halt and defeat the EU stealing Serbia.

How popular is the SRS ?
Can the SRS win an election ?

People in Serbia wants to be part of EU. Not me. Political parties in Government ( SPS ) and in opposition wants EU. Only against EU are small right-wing parties such as Seseslj`s SRS , Dveri etc.

The name of this topic gave me idea. USA wants Slobodan Milosevic to humiliate in ICTY and switch the blame of wars in former Yugoslavia on the Serbs.
Milosevic won elections 1990. and 1992. ( those not super democratic elections but...) and he elected in Parliament for Federal President. Indeed,  in 2000 lot of Serbs did not want Milosevic for Federal President but he also won a lot of votes. Not mind. I
did not want to vote for pro-Western opposition ( DOS ) neither for Milosevic. 13 years in power is too much. As a patriot I voted for
Vojislav Seselj who won 6% of votes.

RT - Russia Today

UN court increases Bosnian Serb leader Karadzic’s sentence to life in jail for ‘Srebrenica genocide
http://www.rt.com/news/454298-bosnian-serb-leader-karadzic-genocide/

'A UN court has increased the sentence of former Bosnian Serb leader Radovan Karadzic to life in prison over the mass killings in Srebrenica during the 1990s Bosnian wars.

Karadzic was earlier sentenced to a 40-year term – which likely amounted to a life sentence for the 73-year-old politician in practical terms – for the role he played in the violent breakdown of Yugoslavia. The Wednesday proceedings were held on an appeal by Karadzic, in which the prosecution insisted a life sentence was more appropriate for his crimes.

Karadzic had served as the Serb’s leader in Bosnia during the civil war in the 1990s. He was earlier found guilty of war crimes and crimes against humanity against Bosniak and Croat civilians. These included the 1995 killings in Srebrenica, where thousands of boys and men were killed in what international courts say was genocide carried out by his troops. The court found him guilty on 10 out of 11 charges and he was sentenced to 40 years in prison. UN’s International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (IRMCT) handed down its final verdict on Wednesday, upgrading the 2016 sentence of Karadzic as requested by the prosecutors. The five-judge panel, however, rejected their call to impose a second genocide conviction for his actions before Srebrenica.

Karadzic is the highest-profile living defendant to be tried in connection with the Bosnian wars. The international justice meted out by UN over the decades has left many Serbs disgruntled over what they see as a vilification of their side in the wars, and a whitewashing of criminals on the side of their opponents.

The proceedings saw several dramatic episodes too. Slobodan Milosevic, the former president of Yugoslavia and later Serbia, famously died in custody in 2006 before his trial could be concluded. Another episode occurred in 2017, when former Bosnian Croat general Slobodan Praljak killed himself just moments after his 20-year sentence was upheld by a court. He drank a vial of poison and rejected the verdict before dying. That prompted the court to change its rules and not livestream the verdict life on Wednesday.'

RT, there are much more "dramatic episodes" in this so-called UN Court. Even no UN in name is this new Inquisition ( IMCT ).
But MSM are silent.

P.S. British "lawyer" J. Neiss "know" that General Ratko Mladic will get same verdict as Dr. Karadzic ?

President of Serbian Radical Party and MP Vojislav Seselj on March 20, described the sentence of life imprisonment pronounced on wartime president of RS Karadzic as scandalous and unprofessional.
"The verdict is scandalous, belongs in the worst practices of the Hague-based tribunal and reflects its continuity," Seselj stressed.
He further said that the ruling "is grounded on the false testimonies of witnesses and imposed facts," and that it "was obviously handed down by incompetent judges with no morals whatsoever."

Fake Promisses: Were the Americans Preventing Radovan Karadzic?

03/20/2019. Author: Marko R. Petrović

There are more theories about how Americans former president of Republika Srpska (RS) guaranteed immunity from the process in the Hague Tribunal (ICTY). The verdict condemning him to life imprisonment all these theories definitely throws water down.

The sentence of life imprisonment for Radovan Karadzic, pronounced before the appeal court in The Hague, probably did not surprise anyone.
Apart from perhaps Karadzic himself who, if he believed some of the tabloids here, believed that an ineffective 40-year prison sentence would be reversed in the acquittal. Or that, at the very least, he will receive a new trial, which was one of the demands stated in his defense's appeal against the first instance verdict. He hoped, perhaps Karadzic, to somehow still manage to show how American "diplomat" Richard Holbrooke, in the period 1995-1996, guaranteed that he would not be indicted in the ICTY.

According to one variant, Karadzic and Holbrooke signed the agreement before signing peace in Dayton in November 1995. Among other things, Vlado Nadezdin, the former head of the cabinet, Milan Milutinovic, the head of diplomacy in Belgrade, presented it. The main point of the agreement, he claimed, was that the Hague Tribunal was not competent for Karadzic.
- I saw that document. Signatories are Richard Holbrooke and Radovan Karadzic, said Nadezdin 12 years ago for Radio Free Europe. And although, as claimed by the document compiled in 4 copies, and that, among other things, he should have been present at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Serbia, he still did not know where to say, where the agreement was signed, nor where it could be found at least one of his copies.

bp store near me
The answer, according to his words, could be given by Holbrooke himself, who, of course, dismissed the whole story as ridiculous.

The second variant places the event at the beginning of 1996. It was brought out by lawyer from Macedonia, I. Pancevski, who even showed part of the alleged agreement between Holbrooke and Karadzic. The US allegedly guaranteed immunity to the former RS President, gave him security, $ 600,000, and more. And all this in return for withdrawing from public life and not hindering the implementation of the Dayton Peace Agreement.

Assuming that no serious state that holds to itself would not violate what it signed   ::), it should be asked where it was "US security" on July 18, 2008. In Public bus transport, Serbian police in civil dress legitimized a man in a light blue T-shirt with a straw hat. He entered the bus as Dragan Dabic, and he was executed with handcuffs on his hands as Radovan Karadzic.

The third variant

however, does not mention any agreement that Karadzic and Holbrooke signed directly, but they are referring to the 1996 agreement that Holbrooke had with the then Serbian president, Slobodan Milosevic, aks to withdraw Karadzic from public life in RS.

There are, however, other theories about who protected the former RS President. One of them, allegedly was former US President " Jimmy " Carter, who had his mediation role during the war in Bosnia. He even allegedly saw Karadzic as a much better option for Serbia and Serbs than Milosevic, and even warned him that the Serbian president would cheat and betray him. In that, the scammers must have been quite right.

top baby names in 1986

Another Carter is mentioned as Karadzic's "guardian angel". It is Raymond Carter, an American security expert nominated by former ICTY Prosecutor Carla del Ponte in 2001 as head of the Special Search Unit for those accused by the Hague Tribunal. He, as he stated in his memoirs, was at the same time in charge of guarding Karadzic from head hunters, because only he could have explained to the Hague Tribunal his role in the war. However, he did not explain why Karadzic was not arrested immediately, nor did he help Karadzic in that provision.

In the end, when the line is underlined, it remains an indisputable fact that the only protection Karadzic actually had among former members of the civilian and military security of Serbia, who worked as the "volunteer fire department".
