Just as predicted in the above Video, car production down . . .

Its like the ocean disappearing just before a Tsunami . . . and that Tusnami will be EV, Electric Vehicles.

British car making slump continues into November with production down 20% and stalling demand in China and US adding to woes

New act of Dieselgate: Over 300,000 Volkswagen owners sue company for damages over emissions fraud
http://www.rt.com/business/447945-vw-dieselgate-germany-auto/

'More than 300,000 people have joined a collective case against Volkswagen, suing the embattled German auto giant for damages over emissions manipulations.

The number of plaintiffs in the very first collective action against the company in Germany, is expected to be well above 300,000, spokesman for the German Federal Office of Justice, Thomas Ottersbach, said on Wednesday.

As of December 28, 294,000 VW owners had joined the action, and many more claims were submitted in the last three days of 2018. The action against Volkswagen was launched on November 1 by the German consumer rights protection union (VZBV) and the All-German Car Club (ADAC). Spam_A Spam_B The plaintiffs seek to prove that the company deliberately harmed its customers through emissions manipulation. Anyone, who bought diesel cars from the manufacturer, packed with EA189 motors could have joined the action.

The scandal – commonly known as Dieselgate – around manipulated emissions erupted back in 2015, when Volkswagen was forced to admit that it packed its cars with a special software. The undocumented function allowed the cars to engage emissions control systems only during laboratory testing to meet the US regulatory standards, while producing up to 40 times more gases during regular driving.

The admission of the systematic emissions cheating made the company’s shares plummet, as well as resulting in multi-billion fines. Aside from that, its investors sued for damages of nearly $11 billion.'

New York Times: Arizonians Are Physically Attacking Self-Driving Cars to Protect Themselves and Loved Ones
http://www.activistpost.com/2019/01/ny-times-arizonians-physically-attacking-self-driving-cars.html

Let’s get real: haven’t self-driving vehicles always seemed like they’re more trouble than they’re worth?

Activist Post doesn’t endorse vandalism or violence. However, this New York Times article, “Wielding Rocks and Knives, Arizonans Attack Self-Driving Cars,” seems too important not to share.

Automated vehicles are being introduced throughout the U.S. despite all their reported issues and accidents (including one fatality).

Insurance experts have also been debating the implications of their existence for years.

The Daily Telegraph

Councils urged to price motorists off road by NHS watchdog
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2019/01/04/councils-urged-price-motorists-road-nhs-watchdog/

'Congestion charges, car bans and speed bumps should be introduced across the country in a bid to persuade more people to travel by foot, NHS watchdogs say.

Local authorities are being asked to introduce a slew of changes, in order to price motorists off the roads, and persuade more people to walk, cycle or use public transport.

The guidance from the National Institute of Health and Care Excellence (Nice) says the needs of pedestrians and cyclists should be prioritised over drivers, whenever roads are being planned or upgraded.

Last night the plans provoked fury from motorists’ associations, who urged the watchdog to “take a reality check” before heaping extra costs and penalties on drivers. Spam_A Spam_B They said many felt increasingly reliant on their cars because public transport was deteriorating.

Nice said the aim of the draft proposals is to “get people to be more active in their day-to-day lives” by encouraging safe, convenient, active travel that is accessible for everyone”.

As a result, councils and transport planners will be instructed to put the needs of pedestrians, cyclists and those using public transport ahead of those using cars, motorbikes and mopeds.

The guidance suggests redesigning roads - so more space is given to walkers and cycle lanes, as well as banning cars from some areas, introducing charges for drivers, and traffic-calming schemes.'

The next car bomb: Cars already on the road can be hacked and taken over, used to kill millions, according to expert
http://www.naturalnews.com/2019-01-05-cars-already-on-the-road-can-be-hacked.html

'Your laptops, computers, smartphones, or smart appliances are not the only things that are susceptible to hacking. Modern cars could be remotely hacked by terrorists and turned into lethal weapons, a computer scientist has warned. The warning was made by Justin Cappos from New York University. Cappos has stated that cyber criminals working for enemy states could hack and remotely control any car built after 2005 to turn them into weapons that could kill millions of people. Even some cars that were manufactured as far back as 2000 could be susceptible to hacking.

“Many of our enemies are nuclear powers, but any nation with the ability to launch a cyberstrike could kill millions of civilians by hacking cars. It’s daunting,” Cappos expressed. Spam_A Spam_B Cappos explained that once hackers are connected to the network, they can communicate with any device and can send messages to the brakes to stop and turn off the power steering. He added that car components would not be able to identify where the messages were coming from and would not be able to tell if these messages were true.

He told The Times, as cited by The Daily Mail, that hackers may already be creating accidents now, with the authorities being unaware. With this warning, he urged the government ministers to update their security and to implement laws that will require car manufacturers to issue software updates. Furthermore, unless car manufacturers fix the problem in the next five years, these attacks are inevitable. He also added that this issue should be treated as an urgent matter because the lives of millions of people are at risk.'

Oops! Autonomous robot struck and 'killed' by a self-driving Tesla in Las Vegas ahead of CES
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-6566655/Oops-Autonomous-robot-struck-killed-self-driving-Tesla-Las-Vegas-ahead-CES.html

'Tesla has found itself involved in yet another self-driving car accident – and this time, its victim was a $2,000-per-day rentable humanoid robot.

In what many are speculating was an over-the-top PR stunt, Promobot revealed one of its model v4 robots was ‘killed’ by a Tesla Model S on a Las Vegas street ahead of CES.

The accident occurred on Paradise Rd Sunday night as engineers transported the firm’s robots to the display booth.

According to Promobot, a number of robots were making their way to the booth around 7 p.m. when one of them stepped out of line and into the parking lot roadway.

As it did, it was struck by a Tesla Model S operating in autonomous mode.

The crash tipped the robot onto its side, causing ‘serious damage,’ Promobot says.

Now, with parts of its body, head, arm mechanisms, and movement platform destroyed, it cannot be put on display.

The firm says the damage is likely irreparable. Spam_A Spam_B 'Of course we are vexed,’ said Oleg Kivokurtsev, Promobot’s Development Director.

‘We brought this robot here from Philadelphia to participate at CES. Now it neither cannot participate in the event or be recovered.

‘We will conduct an internal investigation and find out why the robot went to the roadway.’

The bizarre news now has many people wondering whether the incident was a PR stunt, or simply an unfortunate coincidence.

The Tesla involved in the collision was operating autonomously, though a passenger was inside at the time.'

Is your car WATCHING you? Warning over 'big brother' vehicle technology that monitors the every move of drivers and passengers - and even knows every time you look at a billboard
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-6569007/Move-aside-backseat-driver-New-tech-CES-monitors-inside-car.html

'Cars are getting smarter - and while many focus on seeing the road ahead, they are also set to begin analyzing drivers and passengers.

This week at CES, the international consumer electronics show in Las Vegas, a host of startup companies are showing off inward facing cameras that watch and analyze drivers, passengers and objects in cars.

Carmakers say they will boost safety - but privacy campaigners warn they could be used to make money by analyzing every movement - even being able to track a passenger's gaze to see what ads they are looking at, and monitor the emotions of people through their facial expressions.

Although the current systems don't listen in on conversation, it is feared this could also be added in future versions. Spam_A Spam_B In-car sensor technology is deemed critical to the full deployment of self-driving cars, which analysts say is still likely years away in the United States.

Right now, self-driving cars are still mainly at the testing stage.

The more sophisticated in-car monitoring also could respond to concerns that technology that automates some - but not all - driving tasks could lead motorists to stop paying attention and not be ready to retake control should the situation demand it.

When self-driving cars gain broad acceptance, the monitoring cameras and the artificial-intelligence software behind them will likely be used to help create a more customized ride for the passengers.

Right now, however, such cameras are being used mainly to enhance safety, not unlike a helpful backseat driver.'

'Internet of Roads' — Colorado Goes All-in With Increased Radiation and Surveillance
https://www.activistpost.com/2019/01/internet-of-roads-colorado-radiation-surveillance.html

'Evidently, a test run for smart pavement in Colorado that I reported on back in May 2018 was successful enough to give it the all systems go.

Quote
A plan to turn a portion of Interstate 70 into a roadway where cars communicate with street lights, signs and other internet-connected things just tripled to more than 500 miles.

Colorado’s “internet of roads” project will now extend to highways that reach from Pueblo to Wyoming, and Sterling to Utah, after the state Department of Transportation was awarded a $20 million federal grant earlier this month.

(Source: The Colorado Sun)

The article’s author goes on to tout the many potential benefits to driver safety, although there were no definitive studies revealed to support those claims.

However, what we do know is that the auto industry is working with government to provide a seamless transition into the future Internet of Things. So far, the threat to privacy has been at the forefront of criticism, as well as indications that data mining for profit is also behind the scheme. Even Reuters featured this concern in a recent article:
Quote

As vehicles get smarter, your car will be keeping eyes on you.

This week at CES, the international consumer electronics show in Las Vegas, a host of startup companies will demonstrate to global automakers how the sensor technology that watches and analyzes drivers, passengers and objects in cars will mean enhanced safety in the short-term, and revenue opportunities in the future.

Whether by generating alerts about drowsiness, unfastened seat belts or wallets left in the backseat, the emerging technology aims not only to cut back on distracted driving and other undesirable behavior, but eventually help automakers and ride-hailing companies make money from data generated inside the vehicle.

(Source: Reuters)

And, rest assured, the data that will be collected includes EVERYTHING.'

Yellow vests knock out 60% of all speed cameras in France
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-46822472

'Members of the "yellow vests" protest movement have vandalised almost 60% of France's entire speed camera network, the interior minister has said.

Christophe Castaner said the wilful damage was a threat to road safety and put lives in danger.

The protest movement began over fuel tax increases, and saw motorists block roads and motorway toll booths.

Some protesters feel speed cameras are solely a revenue-generating measure which takes money from the poor.

The BBC's Hugh Schofield, in Paris, said evidence of the vandalism is visible to anyone driving around France, with radar cameras covered in paint or black tape to stop them working.

But the extent of the damage - now believed to affect more than half of all 3,200 speed cameras in the country's network - was unknown until Mr Castaner's statement on Thursday.

He said the devices had been "neutralised, attacked, or destroyed" by members of the protest movement.

The yellow vests movement, or gilets jaunes in French, is named after the high-visibility vests that every driver in the country must keep in their vehicle.'

Not a trustworthy source, its more political campaign than real science.

Electric cars are ALWAYS greener than petrol and diesel vehicles... even when they use electricity generated by coal-fired power stations, report claims

* BNEF research finds electric cars charged with electricity from power stations emit 40% less CO2 than vehicles with internal combustion engines
* The difference is greater in the UK due to our large renewable energy industry
* Sales of electrified cars are at record high, with almost 60k bought in 2018
* However, 74% of sales were plug-in hybrids rather than pure electric cars
* Ultra-low emissions vehicles accounted for just 2.5% of all car sales last year

Keyless technology has left the majority of new cars vulnerable to thieves, Which? report finds
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2019/01/28/keyless-technology-has-left-majority-new-cars-vulnerable-thieves/

'Hundreds of popular cars, including four out of the UK’s five best-selling models, were found to be susceptible to keyless theft after Which? analysed research from the General German Automobile Club (ADAC) to find out the impact of keyless attacks on the five best-selling cars in the UK in 2018.

The Ford Fiesta, Volkswagen Golf, Nissan Qashqai and Ford Focus were all found to be susceptible to this kind of theft. Only the Vauxhall Corsa was deemed safe from such attacks, because it is not available with keyless entry and start. Although keyless theft has been going on for several years, manufacturers continue to make new models that can be taken in this way.

ADAC tested a total of 237 keyless cars and found that all but three were vulnerable to attack.

It also found 230 of the vehicles tested, from more than 30 brands, could be unlocked and started using relay boxes, while a further four models could be either unlocked or started.

The only three keyless cars ADAC tested that were not susceptible to relay attacks were from Jaguar Land Rover – the latest models of the Discovery and Range Rover, and the 2018 Jaguar i-Pace.'

You could be fined up to £1,000 for warning other drivers about a speed camera
http://www.derbytelegraph.co.uk/news/motoring/you-could-fined-up-1000-2504511

'If you've ever been driving slightly over the speed limit when you were flashed by a driver on the opposite side of the road, you'll understand the relief and graditude.

But, by saving you from having to shell out when you're lumped with a speeding ticket, the other driver is actually risking a hefty fine themselves.

Flashing your headlights at someone could actually land you with a £1,000 fine.

According to rule 110 of The Highway Code, you should only ever flash your lights to let another road user you're there, Chronicle Live reports.

The code states: “Do not flash your headlights to convey any other message or intimidate other road users.” But if drivers do choose to flash to warn others about a speed trap implemented by the police, they could be in breach of section 89 of the Police Act 1997.

Under this law it states that it is an offence to “wilfully obstruct a constable in the execution of his/her duty.”

Therefore police could charge anyone who appears to be obstructing their ability to conduct speed checks on other motorists, with this criminal offence.

The maximum fine for obstructing a police officer is capped at level three on the fine scale, with a maximum penalty of £1,000.'

Real-Time Crime Centers to spy on motorists in real-time
http://massprivatei.blogspot.com/2019/02/real-time-crime-centers-to-spy-on.html

'Not content with Real Time Crime Centers (RTCC) forcing businesses to spy on customers in real-time. Homeland Security has now decided to use RTCC's to spy on motorists in real-time.

Last month an article in the Baton Rogue Proud revealed that the Baton Rouge Police Department's RTCC will be using red light cameras to spy on motorists.

"Baton Rouge Chief Administrative Officer Darryl Gissel said the verbiage of the new contract with Verra Mobility, the traffic camera company, allows BRPD to access those live camera feeds." Verra Mobility's slogan is, "A new kind of smart mobility company focused on safe cities, smart roadways and the connected systems that tie them seamlessly together." Roughly translated, Verra Mobility is using their Smart City surveillance cameras to help police spy on everyone.

The New American had this to say about RTCC's, "Local police will have access to a shockingly broad array of personal information of citizens. Facial recognition technology, license plate readers, and stop light camera video feeds will all be funneled to a Regional Operations Intelligence Center where FBI, police, and DHS agents can watch the live feeds."

DHS's relationship with law enforcement is so cozy that they have begun running the Minnesota Law Enforcement Support Office program.

A three-page document titled "Mission of a Real Time Crime Center" warned people that RTCC's would hire private contractors to spy for them.

"The mission of an RTCC would centralize a broad range of current and evolving technologies, coordinate sworn and/or non- sworn human resources." (To learn more about RTCC spying click here & here.)

But what makes Verra Mobility's "story" so frightening, is there effort to turn red light/toll surveillance cameras into a global effort run by them.'

'A sunny day in Florida in May 2016 and Joshua Brown, a veteran of the Iraq War, was in his beloved Tesla Model S sedan — he called it Tessy — cruising U.S. Route 27 in self-drive mode at about 74mph.

Mr Brown, from Ohio, had been on a family trip to Disney World in Orlando and was 37 minutes into his journey home when tragedy struck.

His car collided with an articulated lorry which was turning off the highway across his lane. The Tesla passed under the lorry, sustaining catastrophic damage, before veering off the road and striking two fences and a telegraph pole. Mr Brown died instantly.

This, the first fatality in a driverless (autonomous) car, made headlines around the world. An investigation found that the driverless system had simply failed to ‘see’ the white truck against the bright sky, and so there had been no attempt to brake or divert to avoid the crash. Three years on, as the Government unveils plans to unleash hordes of driverless cars on to British roads over the next decade — it expects fully self-driving vehicles to be in everyday use within the next two years — one can only pray that advances in technology justify the blind faith being put in it.

In my view, the Department for Transport’s decision to scrap safety rules governing the limited use of prototype driverless cars — including the requirement for a human driver to be present at all times — is beyond reckless.

There’s no due care being shown. Ministers are falling over themselves to ingratiate themselves with driverless car manufacturers, facilitating the large- scale advanced testing of these fully autonomous toys for the first time, away from laboratories and test-driving circuits and on our highways and byways.

The truth is that their safety is unproven and these road-robots have already caused injury and deaths on American roads.

Enthusiasts may dismiss these tragedies as mere teething troubles, but some experts warn they are evidence of fatal flaws which mean such cars shouldn’t ever be allowed on public roads, let alone without human monitors who can grab the wheel when emergencies arise or the computer malfunctions. (As the Mail reported this week, some of the autonomous cars permitted on our roads under the new rules won’t even have a steering wheel to grab.)'
