'The Atlantic’s Dick Polman believes the Democrat Party needs a “new massacre” to make gun control “a first-tier story.”

On January 27, 2019, Polman, an Atlantic contributor, noted that the Democrats took control of the House with plans to push gun control. And less than a week after taking control, they followed through by introducing a bill to criminalize private gun sales.

But Polman notes that the gun control bill did not garner major airplay in the establishment media, leading him to suggest a “new massacre” will be key in getting the push more attention. He wrote: “The Democrats’ championing of gun reform is not currently a first-tier story, but a new massacre would likely make it so.”

Polman observes that the January 23, 2019, SunTrust Bank shooting failed to put the Democrats’ gun control push on the map. He misses the fact that bank shooting highlighted the failure of gun control–particularly Florida’s red flag law and waiting periods–rather than the need for it.'

Shooter who opened fire in workplace where 5 died had lost his job, police say

The gunman at the Illinois manufacturing business where five employees were killed and five police officers were wounded was being let go by the company, Aurora Chief of Police Kristen Ziman told reporters Friday night.

The shooter, 45-year-old Gary Martin, used a Smith & Wesson handgun, the chief said. He was killed after police found him attempting to hide and he fired on officers. The chaos at the workplace lasted 90 minutes, Ziman said.

Five Aurora police officers and one employee suffered non-life-threatening injuries, Ziman said.

Congress voted to end private unregistered gun sales. That means every future transaction will be recorded on 4473 form (paper gun registration form).    This is the first step towards a future national computerized gun registration database.

In addition, have pushed the delay from 3 days and gun dealer (FFL) has the option to release the gun to
20 days.  After the first 10 days the buyer has the option to request an expedited review which can take another 10 days.

This still has the pass the Senate but do not count on them or the president.

The bill would lengthen the review period for background checks conducted before someone is allowed to purchase a firearm. Current law allows a gun sale to proceed if a background check hasn’t been processed within three days. The bill calls for that to be extended to 10 days. After the initial 10 business day period, if a background check is not completed, a purchaser may request an escalated review from the FBI. If the background check isn’t resolved after the additional 10 day review, the purchase may proceed.

The Democratic-controlled House on Wednesday approved a measure requiring federal background checks for all firearms sales and transfers, the first major gun control legislation considered by Congress in nearly 25 years. Democrats called the 240-190 vote a major step to end the gun lobby's grip on Washington and begin to address an epidemic of gun violence, including 17 people who were killed at a Florida high school last year.

The bill is the first of two that Democrats are bringing to the House floor this week as part of an effort to tighten gun laws following eight years of Republican control. The other bill would extend the review period for background checks from three to 10 days.
