This commentary may have a spoiler or two but I will do my best to avoid that.
I fell in love with Jesse Eisenberg when I saw this film.
(Yes, the same Jesse Eisenberg who starred as Facebook's
Zuckerman;the same Jesse Eisenberg who starred in
Now You See Me 1 & 2)This film requires you to be patient ,
as it has a totally unexpected ending.
Now that's my kind of film !
Jesse plays a stoner with a severe agoraphobic anxiety disorder.
He just cannot get out of town,
despite all the persecution he experiences.
He lives with his beloved, another stoner who loves him tremendously
despite his limitations.
Did I mention Jesse is also a talented graphic artist?
Or he would be,
if he could keep it together.
As Kevin Smith has shown us in his
Clerks series,
stoners are the perfect employees for running 7/11s, Stop & Shops, etc.
Especially during the night shifts.
One night something unexpected happens.
Things quickly begin to unravel around him.
Jesse stays cool,
or as cool as an extremely anxious, terrified self-medicating psychologically dysfunctional man can be
under life-threatening circumstances.
To mention MK UlTRA may be a bit of a spoiler,
but it does NOT prepare you for the SHOCKING ending.
Watch it.
If you've already seen it, watch it again.
Then, let's talk.
