New Color Revolution Underway in Iran??
https://www.newsbud.com/2017/12/30/newsbud-exclusive-new-color-revolution-underway-in-iran-2/

Over the last few days, anti-government protests have broken out across Iran. It’s reported the protests are focused on deteriorating economic conditions and corruption in the Islamic Republic. Demonstrators have gathered in a number of cities, including Tehran, the holy city of Qom, Isfahan, Kermanshah, Rasht, Sari, and Hamedan.

While average Iranians undoubtedly suffer as a result of the policies and actions of a highly centralized religious government, we must ask if the latest round of anti-government activity is part of a foreign effort to destabilize the country by exploiting discontent with the country’s leadership.

In June, we learned that the Trump administration is behind an effort by Saudi Arabia and the UAE to topple the government in Tehran. This shouldn’t come as a surprise. The Trump administration includes a number of hardliners on Iran, most notably Defense Secretary James Mattis, National Security Advisor H. R. McMaster, and Trump’s CIA director, Mike Pompeo.

Very telling that Trump's talks about Iran and Pakistan starting the New Year.  It is obvious that the US coming off their defeat in Syria is going to focus on destabilizing Iran.

The same people who hate George Bush once they realized he deceived him about the Iraq, are getting fooled again.

I have some Iranian friends, who are no friends of the Ayotollahs having fled Iran in the 90s as political refugees, and they say that the coordination and endurance of these protests, as well as the type of person involved, points to outside interference.

Good piece from globalresearch:

Iran - Regime Change Agents Hijack Economic Protests

http://moonofalabama.org/2017/12/iran-regime-change-agents-hijack-economic-protests-.html#more

Yesterday and today saw some small protests in Iran. They are probably the first stage of a large "regime change" operation run by the U.S. and Israel with the help of Iranian terrorist group.

Earlier this month the White House and the Zionist prepared for a new assault on Iran:

A delegation led by Israel's National Security Adviser met with senior American officials in the White House earlier this month for a joint discussion on strategy to counter Iran's aggression in the Middle East, a senior U.S. official confirmed to Haaretz.

Another report about the meeting quotes Israeli officials on the result:

"[T]he U.S. and Israel see eye to eye the different developments in the region and especially those that are connected to Iran. We reached at understandings regarding the strategy and the policy needed to counter Iran. Our understandings deal with the overall strategy but also with concrete goals, way of action and the means which need to be used to get obtain those goals."

This is probably a result of the above meeting:

Hundreds took to the streets of Iran’s second largest city of Mashad on Thursday to protest over high prices, shouting slogans against the government.

Videos posted on social media showed demonstrators in Mashad in northwest Iran, one of the holiest places in Shia Islam, chanting “death to (President Hassan) Rouhani” and “death to the dictator”.

The semi-official ILNA news agency and social media reported demonstrations in other cities in Razavi Khorasan Province, including Neyshabour and Kashmar.

A video of that protest in Mashad showed some 50 people chanting slogans with more bystander just milling around.

Protests against the (neo-)liberal economic policies of the Rohani government in Iran are justified. Official unemployment in Iran is above 12% and there is hardly any economic growth. The people in the streets are not the only ones who are dissatisfied with this:

Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who has repeatedly criticized the government’s economic record, said on Wednesday that the nation was struggling with “high prices, inflation and recession”, and asked officials to resolve the problems with determination.

On Thursday and today the slogans of some protesters turned the call for economic relief into a call for regime change.

My hunch is that the usual suspects are behind these protests. Note that these started in several cities at the same time. This was not some spontaneous local uproar in one city but had some form of coordination.

Time for (regime) change? Neocons press Trump to sanction Iran over protests
http://rt.com/usa/414852-neocons-iran-protests-trump/

'US neoconservatives and liberal interventionists are pushing President Donald Trump to ratchet up pressure on Tehran, as protests sparked by economic stagnation continue for a fifth day in Iran.

New sanctions are possible, US deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Iran and Iraq, Andrew Peek, told VOA News. Trump adviser Kellyanne Conway confirmed the possibility in a Fox News appearance Tuesday.

Iran is “failing at every level,” Trump tweeted early Monday morning, adding “TIME FOR CHANGE!”

The White House is “keeping our options open,” Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders told reporters at the first briefing of the year Tuesday afternoon. “America longs for the day when Iranians will take their rightful place alongside the free peoples of the world.”

When pressed on whether the US wants regime change in Iran, Sanders said Washington wants to “see the people of Iran given basic human rights, and Iran to stop being a state sponsor of terrorism.”

Sanctions are just part of the US “tool kit,” State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert said Tuesday. “There are a range of options that we have going forward.”'

UN Security Council will discuss Iran after US calls to back anti-government protests

https://www.rt.com/news/415031-un-security-council-iran/

'United Nations has announced the UN Security Council will convene Friday to discuss the situation in the Middle East, following calls by the US to hold an emergency session on the protests in Iran.

On Tuesday, US Ambassador Haley called for urgent meetings in the UNSC and the UN Human Rights Council to back the anti-government protesters.
"The UN must speak out,” Haley said at a news conference. “In the days ahead, we will be calling for an emergency session both here in New York and at the Human Rights Council in Geneva. We must not be silent. The people of Iran are crying out for freedom.”

Meanwhile, President Donald Trump posted tweet after tweet slamming what he called the "brutal and corrupt" Tehran authorities.

Iran's Ambassador to the UN has snapped back at the attacks by US officials, accusing them of “grotesque” interference in his country’s internal affairs, and of encouraging regime change.

Protests erupted last week in Iran over frustration with the economy and corruption. At least 21 people have been killed in the six days of clashes with security forces. Around 450 people have been detained, some, according to Tehran authorities, with links to foreign intelligence services. Speaking Tuesday, the Supreme Leader of Iran Ayatollah Ali Khamenei accused foreign powers of using money, weapons and political warfare to create chaos in the country. The anti-government protests have been met with counter-rallies as thousands of pro-government demonstrators continue to rally in support of President Hassan Rouhani.'

‘He’s totally onboard’: Wolff book describes Trump admin’s collusion with Israel

https://www.rt.com/usa/415011-bannon-trump-israel-collusion/?utm_source=browser&utm_medium=aplication_chrome&utm_campaign=chrome

'Amid the media hype over Steve Bannon’s comments fueling allegations of collusion with Russia, pundits have overlooked an excerpt from the same book that points to collusion between the Trump administration and Israel.

In the book, titled ‘Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House’, author Michael Wolff describes a conversation between former White House chief strategist Steve Bannon and Roger Ailes, the former CEO of Fox News who died in in May 2017.

According to the excerpt published Thursday, Bannon informed Ailes that President Donald Trump, Prime Minister of Israel Benjamin Netanyahu, and their billionaire benefactor Sheldon Adelson are in agreement with moving the US embassy to Jerusalem. Adelson is an American casino mogul who donated $25 million to the Trump campaign and funds Israel’s most popular daily newspaper, Israel Today, which is widely understood to be pro-Netanyahu.

The extract also describes what appears to be Trump’s plan for an “ultimate deal” to achieve peace between Israel and the Palestinians. Bannon said Israel would hand over control of the occupied West Bank to Jordan, and the besieged Gaza Strip would be controlled by Egypt, according to Wolff.'

SouthFront Reports :   Winter Protests In Iran 2017-2018

https://southfront.org/winter-protests-in-iran-2017-2018/

Today, the influence of the Iranian state and its set of values is growing in the Middle East and around the world.

In late December, anti-government protests sparked across the country. Over 20 people were killed, hundreds injured and thousands detained because of clashes between security forces and the protestors. The protests emerged due to internal economic factors and the activity of foreign adversaries of Iran. The main factors behind the protests were government imposed barriers to small businesses, a strict regulation of daily life by the government, corruption, high level of the social differentiation and economic variance within the population as well as the infiltration of patterns of the Western consumerist society into the country.

On December 28, protests broke out in the northern city of Mashhad. Over the next few days, these protests spread across the country and reached the Iranian capital, Teheran. In some areas, protestors attempted to storm police stations and government buildings. This became the main reason for the casualties. For example, six protesters were killed during an attack on the police station in Qahderijan. The protesters tried to steal guns from the station. According to reports, two protestors also died in the city of Khomeini Shahr, three in Shahin Shahr, six in Tuyserkan, two in Izeh and four in Doroud. A member of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps was also reportedly killed by a protestor with a hunting gun near Najafabad.

According to reports, the protests were initially caused by President Hassan Rouhani’s leak of a proposed government budget last month. The budget would have slashed cash subsidies for the poor and raised fuel prices to lower debt. The plan also included fees for car registration and a departure tax. Some groups of protesters also criticized Iran’s spending on foreign policy goals across the region.

Iranian authorities have temporarily blocked access to social media and messaging apps which could allow the protestors to organize. Habibollah Khojastehpour, the deputy governor of the Lorestan province, accused “foreign agents” for the deaths of two demonstrators that took place on December 30.

“No shots were fired by the police and security forces. We have found evidence of enemies of the revolution, Takfiri groups [militant groups] and foreign agents in this clash,” he said in an interview to the state-run TV station on December 31.

Iran’s Ambassador to the UN Gholamali Khoshroo accused the US of “grotesque” interference in the country’s affairs and of encouraging regime change in Iran after the  US President Donald Trump had praised the riots “against the brutal and corrupt Iranian regime” and warned that the US was closely watching the situation. US ambassador to the UN, Nikki Haley even vowed to call an “urgent” UN Security Council meeting to discuss the situation in Iran.

Previously, such major protests took place in Iran 9 years ago, in 2009. The 2018 protest follows major foreign policy successes of Iran in the Middle East. Meanwhile, the US and Israeli leadership made multiple statements that Tel Aviv and Washington are set to counter the growing Iranian influence.

According to experts, the US is actively using diplomacy and intelligence as means to further destabilize the situation in Iran. Kurds and Azeris living in Iran played an important role in escalating the protests. The US elites directly influence these communities.

At one point, Iran was close to the edge of losing control over the expanding protests. Currently, it looks like Teheran regained control of the situation. If the situation destabilizes further or if the Iranian government weakens enough, the chances for US-Israeli intervention in the country will grow. The formal reason for this aggression will be the so-called protection of “freedom and democracy”.

The recent events clearly indicate that foreign actors have and are able to use so-called soft power means to destabilize the internal situation in Iran and possibly later, within 2-3 months, in Russia.

Tehran complains to Ofcom over UK media propaganda over Iran events

http://www.presstv.com/Detail/2018/01/05/547871/Iran-UK-Ofcom

'Tehran has complained to the UK media regulator, Ofcom, about a propaganda campaign launched by some British media outlets, in defiance of Britain’s own law, with the aim of fueling the recent scattered riots in some areas in Iran.

In a letter of complaint to Ofcom, Iran’s Embassy in London denounced the propaganda campaign launched by UK-based Persian-language broadcasters covering the recent riots in Iran, IRNA reported, citing an informed source within the diplomatic mission as saying on Thursday.

The letter, the source said, pointed out that the outlets had acted in clear contravention of the British and international media regulations by trying to incite the protesters in Iran to resort to riot and armed violence.

It further called for an end to such pernicious media practices as a means of protecting the principles of professional broadcasting.

Last Thursday, some towns and cities in Iran witnessed peaceful protests against recent price hikes and the overall economic conditions.

The protests soon took a violent turn as rioters, who were later revealed to have received the support of foreign intelligence agencies, entered the fray and started to cause violence.'

Could GCHQ influence Iran protests? They’ve done it before, claims researcher
http://www.rt.com/uk/414831-gchq-influence-hack-protest/

'The UK government uses fake content & sockpuppet accounts on social media to infiltrate activist groups & “destroy” enemies, former hacktivist Mustafa Al-Bassam claims. A shadowy unit is known to target the Middle East, he says.

Al-Bassam, who uses the alias TFlow, was a black hat hacker and one of the six core members of hacktivist group LulzSec. He is now a researcher and Computer Science PhD student at University College London, and says social media sites such as Twitter, BlogSpot and YouTube are being used by British intelligence agencies to pursue geopolitical goals.

He says through its social media manipulation operations, spy agency Government Communications Headquarters (GCHQ) tried to influence online activists during the 2009 Iranian presidential election protests, and the 2011 uprisings widely known as the Arab Spring.

Al-Bassam told the Chaos Communication Congress in Germany last week that the Joint Threat Research Intelligence Group (JTRIG) – a unit in GCHQ – uses “dirty tricks” to target activists.

He says JTRIG has been tasked by the British government to “[use] online techniques to make something happen in the real or cyber world.” To fulfil this aim, a wide but basic array of technological tools and software are used, including ‘DEADPOOL,’ which is described as a “URL shortening service,” and ‘HUSK,’ a “secure one-to-one web based dead-drop messaging platform.”

He told the conference: “It’s basically a fancy name for sitting on Twitter and Facebook all day and trolling online. What they do, is they conduct what they call ‘human intelligence’ – which is like the act of interacting with humans online to try and make something happen in the real world.

“In their own words one of the things they do is to use ‘dirty tricks’ to ‘destroy, deny, degrade [and] disrupt’ enemies by ‘discrediting’ them.”'

Trump's Failed Coup in Iran
http://ericmargolis.com/2018/01/trumps-failed-coup-in-iran/

'Listen to the state-‘guided’ US media this past week and you’d believe a series of spontaneous anti-government protests broke out across Iran. The protests, according to President Donald Trump and his Israeli allies, were caused by `anger over Iran’s spending billions on wars in Syria, Iraq and Lebanon and helping the Palestinian movement Hamas.’ Trump tweeted that Iranians were finally rising up against what he called their hated, brutal regime.

Talk about manufactured news. Most Iranians were elated and proud of their nation’s role in thwarting US plans to occupy much of Syria and overthrow the government of President Bashar al-Assad. By contrast, the other side in this long proxy war – the US, Israel, Saudi Arabia and Britain – was smarting with defeat and seeking ways to exact revenge on the hateful trio, Syria, Iran and Russia.

Interestingly, the so-called news of protests over Iran’s military spending did not apparently originate in Iran but rather in Washington which spread it far and wide to our state-guided media. This was clumsy, but the US and Israel were so eager to get this piece of made-up good news out that they forget the basics of propaganda management: wait for the event before you proclaim it.

What in fact was going on in Iran where more than 21 demonstrators have died violent deaths? As a very long-time Iran watcher allow me to explain.'

From ‘Russian meddling’ to Iran regime change: Social media as tools of US policy
http://www.rt.com/op-edge/415110-iran-social-media-regime-change/

'As US-based social media companies crack down on dissent at home in the name of fighting phantom ‘Russian meddling,’ Washington seeks to leverage them for regime change in places like Iran.

If social media platform Twitter can ban German politicians for incitement (of race hate), then why doesn’t it apply the same sanction on President Trump over his incendiary comments regarding Iranian protests?

Arguably, Trump’s incitement is far graver. He is recklessly encouraging violence in a whole nation. The arrogance is astounding and yet Twitter and other US news media just go along with it. So too do European leaders and media.

Trump and his administration have been full-on in public statements egging on protests which broke out in Iran last week. Trump’s denouncing of the Iranian government as “brutal and corrupt” and urging “time for change” is a brazen incitement to sedition.

Meanwhile, Nikki Haley, the insufferable US ambassador at the United Nations, added to the hysterical chorus coming out of Washington. She called for an emergency meeting Friday at the Security Council in order to condemn Iranian authorities for their handling of demonstrations in which some 20 people have been killed after nearly seven days of disturbances.

Earlier, Haley embarked on one of her geopolitical fantasies when she hailed the “Iranian people crying out for freedom” and “rising up against dictators.”

This is grossly irresponsible interference in the sovereign internal affairs of Iran.

Russia has rightly censured the US for meddling in Iran’s domestic politics. Moscow said the emergency meeting called by Haley at the UN was “harmful and destructive” grandstanding.'
