Sir Vince Cable: House of Lords is ready to defeat parts of Theresa May's Brexit Bill

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/vince-cable-brexit-latest-theresa-may-eu-withdrawal-bill-lords-commons-a8049731.html

'Liberal Democrat leader Sir Vince Cable has warned that peers across the House of Lords are ready to join forces and inflict defeats on the Government over Brexit.

In an exclusive interview with The Independent, he set out how he has met with peers in a bid to ensure the Government does not use Brexit legislation as an excuse to get rid of rights and protections currently enshrined in European law.

Sir Vince also revealed how interest is growing among members of the Lords in the idea of having a “referendum of the facts” once the country knows what kind of Brexit deal it faces.

His intervention follows a further round of Brexit talks which again failed to move negotiations forward and comes as Theresa May’s ministers begin a drive to push through their key piece of legislation necessary to make EU withdrawal happen.

But while Ms May has a good chance of winning votes on her bill in the House of Commons with the Northern Irish DUP’s backing, she is weaker in the Lords against opposition from the Lib Dems, Labour, Tory rebels and crossbench peers.'

Economists SLAM negative Brexit forecasts and announce UK could be £65BILLION better off

http://www.express.co.uk/news/uk/878758/brexit-news-uk-eu-economy-budget-65-billion-economy-economists-for-free-trade-surplus-nhs

'The paper, produced by the eurosceptic group Economists for Free Trade, accuses official forecasts of failing to question “negative” analysis of the effect of leaving the EU ahead of last year’s referendum.

The economists said their own models reveal that, based on Britain leaving the EU in 2020, the UK would experience a fall in unemployment, rising wages and improving growth.

The paper adds that the resulting “Brexit dividend” could be used to bolster public services and introduce tax cuts.

The Economists for Free Trade group said its 'Budget for Brexit' report analysis factored in "long-run gains”, including price drop after abandoning EU tariffs on goods from outside of Europe, "improved export performance", and "an end to the annual EU subscription of £10billion".'

Theresa May's ability to deliver Brexit in doubt amid growing threat to her leadership

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/theresa-may-brexit-eu-boris-johnson-letter-40-mps-michael-gove-a8051066.html

'Theresa May’s ability to deliver Brexit is in doubt amid a growing threat to her leadership and concerns over whether she still has the political clout to govern.

Ms May must this week renew the drive to push her EU withdrawal Bill through the House of Commons, with Tory MPs who backed Remain in the referendum threatening to join forces with Jeremy Corbyn’s party to impose changes.

But Labour and other opposition parties warned that Ms May no longer has enough authority over the Conservatives to secure the Bill’s passage, after it emerged some 40 Tory MPs may now be willing to sign a letter of no confidence in her and a note emerged in which two cabinet ministers appear to direct her Brexit policy.'

Parliament to get binding vote on final Brexit deal

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-41975277

'Parliament is to be given a take-it-or leave-it vote on the final Brexit deal before the UK leaves the EU.

Brexit Secretary David Davis said the terms of the UK's exit, such as money, citizen rights and any transition must become law via a new Act of Parliament.

Labour welcomed a "climbdown" but some MPs warned of a "sham" if ministers could not be asked to renegotiate.

Sources have told the BBC some Tory rebels were unimpressed, with one saying the promise was "meaningless".

BBC political editor Laura Kuenssberg said the announcement was significant because it represented a big concession to potential Tory rebels and Labour MPs at a highly important moment in the Brexit process.

It comes as MPs prepare to debate key Brexit legislation later this week with the government facing possible defeat on aspects of the EU Withdrawal Bill, which will convert EU law into UK law.'

Official DAWN OF EU ARMY: Brussels signs off military plan & hails historic day without UK

http://www.express.co.uk/news/world/878918/eu-army-european-defence-union-pact-brussels-uk-brexit

'Germany and France are leading the charge for a new defence union, which aims to cement EU unity after Brexit.

The campaign for a European defence union stretches back to the 1950s, although the movement has stuttered in the decades since.

But EU officials are now celebrating as progress accelerates with the support of Brussels chiefs Jean-Claude Juncker, Guy Verhofstadt and Michel Barnier.

One unnamed official quoted by Reuters news agency said today: “We've never come this far before. We are in a new situation.”

EU foreign and defence ministers signed the new pact at around 10.30am GMT. EU leaders will then officially back it next month to make it EU law.

Federica Mogherini emphasised the importance of today’s agreement this morning.

The EU’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security said: “It’s going to be quite a historic day today for European defence."'

Farage: Soros and EU Allies Engaged in ‘The Biggest Level of International Political Collusion in History’

http://www.breitbart.com/london/2017/11/14/farage-soros-allies-international-political-collusion-history/

'Brexit campaign leader Nigel Farage has called out billionaire open borders campaigner George Soros and his “reliable friends” for collusion on a grand scale.

Speaking in a debate on the Paradise Papers in the European Parliament, the UKIP MEP pointed out that the financier had funded the exposé.

“I say this at a time when the use of money and the influence it may have had on the Brexit result or the Trump election has reached a level of virtual hysteria,” he said.

“Just last week the Electoral Commission in the UK launched an investigation to find out whether the Leave campaign took offshore money or Russian money.

“This came about as a result of questions asked in the House of Commons by one Ben Bradshaw, somebody linked to an organisation called Open Society.'

Brexit trade talks to be pushed back by another four months, Merkel ally says

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/brexit-sufficient-progress-trade-talks-angela-merkel-ally-manfred-weber-a8054841.html

'The timetable of Brexit talks now faces being pushed back again by another four months at a make-or-break EU summit in December, a key ally of Angela Merkel has said.

Manfred Weber, the German group leader of the centre-right European People’s Party, said it looked increasingly unlikely the EU27 nations would judge Britain to have made “sufficient progress” in negotiations to open trade talks on the UK’s future relationship with Europe.

Failure for the Prime Minister at the December summit – coming after a similar hiccup in October – would mean the next opportunity to move to trade talks would come at a Council meeting at the end of March next year, nearly a four month delay.

With Article 50 pulling Britain out of the bloc automatically in March 2019 and the EU insisting any deal be finalsied six months in advance, rejection again in Brussels would dramatically heighten the prospect of a ‘no deal’.'

Oasis frontman Noel Gallagher tells 'fascist' Remainers to 'get over' Brexit

https://www.express.co.uk/news/uk/880196/Brexit-news-oasis-singer-noel-gallagher-tells-facist-remainers-get-over-eu-referendum

'The musician, who admits that he supported remain himself, has said he’s had enough of people moaning that a democratic vote didn’t go their way.He said: “It was put to the people as a vote, the people voted. That’s democracy. F***ing get over it.”

The Mancunian’s intervention comes after some remain voting MPs tried to stall Brexit legislation in the House of Commons.

Politicians are currently debating the EU Withdrawal Bill that will see parliament give its consent to the UK leaving the EU.However, MPs have tried to halt the process by putting forward more than 400 amendments to the bill.Mr Gallagher added: “People trying to get the vote overturned, they used to call that fascism. But they don’t call it fascism anymore because they’re f—ing ‘right on."'

Goldman Sachs boss calls for second Brexit referendum

https://www.theguardian.com/business/2017/nov/16/goldman-sachs-boss-calls-for-second-brexit-referendum

'The boss of Goldman Sachs has suggested a second EU referendum to confirm there is a consensus in the UK on the “monumental and irreversible” Brexit decision.

Lloyd Blankfein, in his latest intervention via Twitter on Brexit, said there was “lots of handwringing” from chief executives about Brexit and the “tough and risky road ahead”.

“Reluctant to say, but many wish for a confirming vote on a decision so monumental and irreversible. So much at stake, why not make sure consensus still there?”'
