Isis caliphate defeated: Victory declared as Islamic State loses last of its territory
http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/middle-east/isis-caliphate-over-islamic-state-territory-lose-syria-iraq-terrorists-jihadis-a8781896.html

'The self-styled Isis caliphate, which once stretched for thousands of miles and ruled over millions of people, has been declared defeated.

The end for the terrorist state came in the village of Baghouz, in Syria’s eastern Deir ez-Zor province, following a months-long final battle.

“Syrian Democratic Forces declare total elimination of so-called caliphate and 100 per cent territorial defeat of Isis,” said Mustafa Bali, spokesman of the US-backed group. Mr Bali added: “On this unique day, we commemorate thousands of martyrs whose efforts made the victory possible.”

Theresa May praised the “immense courage of the UK military and our allies” following the announcement. “We will continue to do what is necessary to protect the British people, our Allies and partners from the threat Daesh poses,” the prime minister said.

French President Emmanuel Macron said that “a major danger to our country is now eliminated, yet the threat remains and the fight against terrorist groups must continue.”

Britain and France were junior partners in the US-led coalition that helped turn the tide against Isis when it joined the fight in 2014.

In a later statement, Donald Trump said Washington would “remain vigilant” until the group “is finally defeated wherever it operates”. To “all of the young people on the internet” who felt attracted by Isis’ propaganda, he said: “Think instead about having a great life.”

The last fight was one of the toughest yet. After years of steadily clawing back territory from Isis across northeast Syria, in September the SDF surrounded the last pocket of Isis control in an isolated string of villages along the eastern banks of the Euphrates river.

These hamlets became the last holdout for the group’s most hardened fighters and leaders. With nowhere else to run, many decided to fight to the bitter end, leading to massive casualties on both sides. The SDF said Saturday that it had lost 11,000 fighters over the course of the campaign.'

US blocks Syrian-Russian delegation from occupied Al Tanf zone, rejects talks on trapped refugees
http://www.rt.com/news/454820-us-block-access-rukban-camp/

'The US troops occupying a 55-km zone in southern Syria have blocked Russian and Syrian diplomatic and military officials from entering. The delegation said they wanted to assess the state of the ill-famed Rukban refugee camp.

The delegation was denied access to the Al Tanf zone, where it planned to monitor and conduct detailed assessments of refugees living at the remote and overpopulated Rukban camp.

They had also invited US officials for a meeting to “develop step-by-step activities” aimed at dismantling the camp, however, both offers were rebuffed by the US command.

The American side, which is directly responsible for what is happening in the Al Tanf zone illegally occupied by them, ignored the initiative aimed at saving the residents of Rukban and refused to participate in the coordination meeting,” said the joint statement by Russia-Syria coordination center on refugee repatriation.

Noting that the US command’s position was “puzzling,” the center added that the refusal of access to the zone was under the “false pretenses” of humanitarianism. Instead, it accused the Americans of “trying to hide crimes” against Syrians living in the US-occupied zone.

“Despite assurances from our American partners about joint cooperation, their goal is clearly not to save people dying from unsanitary, hunger, cold and diseases of the Syrian citizens,” the statement added.'

US Media Pretend ISIS Defeated

Establishment US (and other Western) media operate as press agents for wealth, power and privileged interests - notably supporting their wars of aggression on nations threatening no one.

Substituting rubbish for truth and full disclosure on major issues, they’re a collective lying machine, a laughing stock - anti-journalism, not the real thing.

On what’s been going on in Syria since March 2011, they consistently lie and deceive, calling US aggression “civil war.” There’s nothing remotely “civil” about it - the plot hatched by the Obama regime in cahoots with NATO, Israel and other regional rogue states.

Russia’s intervention in September 2015 to combat US-supported terrorists in Syria foiled its best laid plans. War continues with no end of it in prospect because bipartisan US hardliners reject resolution.

Major US-led Western media also pretend the Pentagon and so-called “coalition” partners (largely Britain, France, Israel, the Saudis, UAE and Jordan) are combatting the scourge of ISIS they support.

The same goes for other jihadists, used as imperial foot soldiers - heavily armed by the West, Israel, and their imperial partners to topple Assad, partition the country, and eliminate Syrian sovereignty.

All wars are based on Big Lies and deception, supported by major media. They wouldn’t get out of the starting gate without them serving as imperial press agents.

Following phony official claims about the non-defeat/defeat of ISIS, the NYT headlined “ISIS Caliphate Crumbles as Last Village in Syria Falls.”

No such “caliphate” existed earlier or now. US-supported terrorist groups in the Middle East and elsewhere are replicas of each other, their names irrelevant, their missions all that matters - serving US imperial interests.

According to Times disinformation, reporting the official narrative exclusively, “(a)  four-year military operation to flush the Islamic State from its territory in Iraq and Syria ended on Saturday as the last village held by the terrorist group was retaken, erasing a militant theocracy that once spanned two countries.”

Fact: ISIS and likeminded groups continue to threaten nations where the US deploys them - in Syria and Iraq, operating from US bases, given safe haven cross-border in Turkey, Jordan, and Israeli occupied Golan.

Claiming ISIS is defeated in Syria and Iraq is state-sponsored propaganda, repeated by establishment media, ignoring reality on the ground.

The Times embarrassed itself, saying “a grueling campaign, the last speck of land was finally wrested from the Islamic State.”

At the same time, the self-styled newspaper of record said it “remains a serious threat (because) (m)any of its top leaders are still alive” - failing to explain they’re given safe haven on US bases and by its imperial allies.

Nor explaining that the Pentagon, CIA, and their counterparts in allied regimes continue to replenish their ranks. The Times saying ISIS “is now a diminished force compared to its zenith four years ago” is meaningless.

Terrorist proxies by their various names serve as US ground troops, countless thousands deployed in Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan, Yemen, Libya and elsewhere.

Their ranks can be increased to whatever levels US military planners intend. It’s irrelevant whether they’re called ISIS, al-Qaeda, al-Nusra, or anything else. They’re virtual replicas of each other - what the Times and other Western media never explain, nor that they serve US imperial interests. According to the neocon/CIA house organ Washington Post,”(t)he (nonexistent) ‘caliphate’ is no more, (b)ut the Islamic State isn’t finished yet,” adding:

“US-backed forces declared the final defeat of the Islamic State’s self-declared caliphate Saturday, bringing to an end the brutal experiment in state building that had lured foot soldiers from around the world and inflicted unimaginable suffering on those caught up in the militants’ rampage through Iraq and Syria.”

Reality is far different from the above remarks. The US and its imperial partners continue supporting the scourge of terrorism wherever its fighters are deployed.

There’s no shortage of crazies to fill their ranks. Like crabgrass, they’re everywhere in unlimited numbers.

The Wall Street Journal joined the ISIS is defeated chorus, saying “(t)he demise (sic) of the group’s self-proclaimed caliphate (sic) comes as President Trump prepares to pull US troops from Syria (sic).”

ISIS and likeminded jihadist groups are far from defeated. Reports claiming it are greatly exaggerated.

The US plans permanent occupation of northern and southern Syria, along with strategic parts of Iraq, and elsewhere in the Middle East, Central Asia, and Africa.

The struggle to end ongoing US wars of aggression continues because bipartisan hardliners in Washington reject resolution.

US Training ISIS Militants At Al-Tanf To Attack Syrian Oil Fields
http://www.fort-russ.com/2019/03/revealed-us-training-isis-militants-at-al-tanf-to-attack-syrian-oil-fields/

'According to sources in the Syrian government army, several thousand militants of the Islamic State (outlawed in Russia), who previously surrendered outside the settlement of al-Baguz on the eastern bank of the Euphrates, were transported to the At-Tanf zone through the territories of Iraq and Jordan under the American escort. Those were mostly people from local tribes dwelling in the Syrian and Iraqi territories. Their families and relatives were sent as hostages to Al-Hol camp in Al-Hasakah province.

Most militants were sent to training camps that account for at as many as ten in the American-occupied territory. There are representatives of the group known as “Majmuat Abu Husam” actively working with them. This is sort of “Bedouin special forces” created by Arab employees of American private military companies in Iraq who later joined ISIS. In exchange for the possibility of amnesty and the well-being of their relatives, the militants are demanded to take part in an operation aimed to establish control over the territory of the so-called White Desert. What is primarily meant here is the attack against the infrastructure of crude oil extracting and processing in the Homs province, namely the districts of Jisal, Ash-Shair, Mahrur and Tvenan north of Palmyra, as well as the Khneifis phosphate mines. These territories have fallen under control of government troops with the support of Russian aviation in 2017 and remain an extremely attractive target to ISIS terrorists and their patrons.

Apart from that, the Americans are interested in the elimination of government posts along the strategic Deir ez-Zor – Damascus route. Currently, militant groups of the Islamic State that came here through the At-Tanf zone are already demonstrating their aggressive behavior in the White Desert. Over the past ten days, at least twenty Syrian soldiers have been killed in such attacks.'

Civilian airport hit as Israel strikes area around Aleppo – reports

Syrian air defense forces have repelled an attack by Israel which rained down missiles on the area to the north-east of Aleppo, SANA said. There have been reports of a blackout in the city and a civilian airport being targeted.

A military source cited by the SANA news agency reported that the attack unfolded around 11pm local time (9pm GMT), forcing Damascus to activate its missile shield to shoot down a number of incoming rockets.

The Israeli missiles reportedly targeted the Sheikh Najjar industrial area to the northeast of Aleppo and the settlement of Jibrin, a local militia source told Sputnik. The source said that the rockets also targeted a civilian airport in the city, which has been under the Syrian government's control since December 2016. According to multiple reports, Aleppo plunged into darkness in the wake of the raid due to a massive power outage.

Israel, having targeted what it claimed were Iranian positions within Syria in the past, has not commented on the goals of the latest alleged strikes.

Reports on social media suggested that one of the targets might have been an ammunition depot near Al-Nayrab military airbase, to the southeast of Aleppo.

Syria’s Rukban Now Little More Than a US-Controlled Concentration Camp – and the Pentagon Won’t Let Refugees Leave
http://www.mintpressnews.com/syrias-rukban-little-more-than-a-u-s-controlled-concentration-camp-and-the-pentagon-wont-let-refugees-leave/256689/

DAMASCUS, SYRIA — The United States military has rejected offers to resolve the growing humanitarian crisis in the Rukban refugee camp in Syria, which sits inside a 55 km zone occupied by the U.S. along the Syria-Jordan border. The U.S. has also refused to let any of the estimated 40,000 refugees — the majority of which are women and children — leave the camp voluntarily, even though children are dying in droves from lack of food, adequate shelter and medical care. The U.S. has also not provided humanitarian aid to the camp even though a U.S. military base is located just 20 km (12.4 miles) away.

The growing desperation inside the Rukban camp has received sparse media coverage, likely because of the U.S.’ control over the area in which the camp is located. The U.S. has been accused of refusing to let civilians leave the area — even though nearly all have expressed a desire to either return to Syrian government-held territory or seek refuge in neighboring countries such as Turkey — because the camp’s presence helps to justify the U.S.’ illegal occupation of the area. Though the U.S. has long justified its presence in al-Tanf as necessary to defeat Daesh (ISIS), the U.S. government has also acknowledged that al-Tanf’s true strategic importance lies in U.S. efforts to “contain” Iran by blocking a connection from Iran to Syria through Iraq. Al-Tanf lies near the area where the borders of Syria, Iraq and Jordan meet. Thus, in the U.S.’ game of brinkmanship with Iran, Rukban’s estimated 40,000 inhabitants have become pawns whose basic needs are ignored by their occupiers.

On Tuesday, delegations from Russia, Syria, the UN, and the Rukban refugee camp met to discuss the fate of the camp’s inhabitants after a UN survey found that 95 percent of the camp’s inhabitants wanted to leave the camp, while 83 percent wanted to return to their hometowns in areas of Syria now under Syrian government control.

However, the U.S. military and State Department officials in nearby Jordan rejected an invitation to Tuesday’s meeting. The U.S. military also prohibited a Syrian-Russian delegation from entering the Rukban camp on Tuesday. The delegation had sought to assess conditions in the camp, which have become increasingly desperate according to reports from a variety of outlets, including U.S. government-funded outlets like Voice of America.'

Saudi Arabia ‘absolutely rejects’ any steps impacting Syrian sovereignty over Golan heights
http://www.rt.com/news/455190-saudi-king-golan-syria-sovereignty/

'Saudi King Salman said he “absolutely rejects” any steps that would undermine Syrian sovereignty over the Israeli-controlled Golan Heights, after US President Donald Trump recognized the area as Israeli territory.

Speaking at an Arab League event in Tunisia on Sunday, Salman also reiterated his support for a ‘two-state solution’ for Israel and Palestine, with East Jerusalem as the capital of the Palestinian state.

His remarks came as a strong rebuff to US President Donald Trump, who signed a declaration last week officially recognizing the Golan Heights as part of Israel. The strategic area was captured from Syria during the Six-Day War in 1967, and has since remained under Israeli control. In 1981, the UN Security Council unanimously voted to declare the Israeli annexation of the Golan Heights illegal and demanded that Tel Aviv “rescind” it.

Trump's move, not surprisingly, was praised by the Israeli government and drew fierce criticism from Syria, which blasted the annexation of its territory as “null and void.”

The issue also caused a rift with some of the US’ NATO allies. French leader Emmanuel Macron said that the recognition of Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights “violates international law and creates tension in the region.”

On Sunday, the EU’s foreign affairs chief, Federica Mogherini, stressed that ignoring the UN’s position on the Golan Heights is “not a solution.”

The Saudi king’s affirmation of East Jerusalem as Palestinian is another clear rebuke of Washington’s policy, since Trump recognized the whole of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, and moved the US embassy there from Tel Aviv. That also did not go down well with Washington’s allies as some cautioned saying it put the whole perspective of the peace process in jeopardy.'

Any resolution of Syria conflict must guarantee its territorial integrity: UN
http://www.presstv.com/Detail/2019/03/31/592279/Arab-League-Tunis-Guterres-Mogherini-Golan-Heights-Beji-Caid-Essebsi-Palestine

'Secretary General of the United Nations Antonio Guterres has stressed the importance of guaranteeing Syria's sovereignty and territorial integrity in any resolution on the conflict in the Arab country.

Quote
“Any resolution of the Syrian conflict must guarantee the unity, [and] the territorial integrity of Syria, including the occupied Golan,” he said in an address to an Arab League summit in the Tunisian capital of Tunis on Sunday.

As “millions of Syrians remain displaced and in need, and tens of thousands are arbitrarily detained…we must keep working to forge a political path to a sustainable peace in which all Syrians are heard, grievances are addressed, and needs are met,” he added. Guterres' remarks came days after US President Donald Trump broke decades of international consensus and formally recognized Israeli "sovereignty" over the occupied Golan Heights, a border area the Tel Aviv regime seized from Syria in 1967.

“This was a long time in the making. Should have taken place decades ago,” Trump said while signing the proclamation in the presence of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Trump's Jewish son-in-law and adviser, Jared Kushner, in the White House in Washington, DC.

However, a Wednesday meeting of the UN Security Council turned into another stage for the isolation of the US, as other countries on the council opposed Trump’s move on Golan.

Addressing the meeting, Syria's Ambassador to the United Nations Bashar Jaafari lashed out at President Trump's recognition, describing the move as part of a “criminal project” aimed at prolonging chaos and destruction in the region.'

With Assad Victorious, US Oil Sanctions Now Strangle Entire Syrian Population
http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2019-04-26/assad-victorious-us-oil-sanctions-now-strangle-entire-syrian-population

'The deep irony of the tragic Syria war is that after seven years of massive bloodshed, as the government has emerged victorious, it is only now with relative stability and ensuing calm over most of the country that an "economic siege" has hit the population with full force.

Damascus even during some of the worst years of war was always a bustling traffic-packed economic center for its six million inhabitants, but as we noted previously the country has been plunged into a fuel crisis that is the result of new US-led oil sanctions targeting Damascus and Tehran. As one recent WSJ report put it, Iranian oil deliveries to Syria have "fallen off a cliff" since January.

"Lifeless" and "decimated economy" are words used to describe the Syrian capital city and home to Assad in a new Bloomberg piece (which appeared just as busy as most any global cosmopolitan center only months ago), as further "traffic is light" and "morale is down," according to the report.

"Waiting 19 hours for gas in a lifeless city" — the headlines read. The ongoing weeks-long crisis has now been made especially worse after the Trump administration this week ended embargo exemptions for eight countries allowed to purchase Iranian crude.

"Lines of cars stretching for miles wait hours to fill their tanks with the 20 liters of gasoline that Syrians in government-controlled areas are allowed every five days," Bloomberg describes. "The last shipment of oil from Iran, which was sending up to 3 million barrels a month, came in October before sanctions were resumed."

It was thought runaway inflation during the height of the war years would reverse course, but as one Damascus resident related:

Quote
“I thought once the war ended, our currency would become stronger and our living standards better,” said Saeed al-Khaldi, who transports vegetables across the sprawling city. Damascus’s population has almost doubled since the war started, to over 6 million, as civilians fled violence in other regions. “Instead, we’re living from one crisis to the other.”

The WSJ reported last month that Iranian oil had been routinely delivered to Syria throughout most of the war, but now "U.S. sanctions have cut off Iranian oil shipments to Syria, taking an unprecedented toll on a flow of crude that had persisted in the face of long-term international restrictions and helped sustain the Assad regime through years of civil war."'

ISIS leader Baghdadi surfaces in video for first time since 2014
http://www.rt.com/news/457854-isis-leader--surfaces-video/

For the first time in years, the leader of Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS) has appeared in video footage, disproving long-running rumors of his death.
Published by the terror group’s media arm on Monday, the video depicts a greying Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi calmly seated next to a rifle, discussing jihad with his cohorts.

“The video shows Baghdadi in a casual conversational setting with others (their faces blurred),” said Rita Katz, executive director of the SITE Intelligence Group, a company that tracks the activities of terror groups. “He talks about war against ‘Crusaders’ and about battles in Baghouz, Syria being over, indicating that this interview was filmed somewhat recently.”

US-led coalition aircraft drop food, medicine to ISIS remnants in western Iraq: Report
http://www.presstv.com/Detail/2019/05/07/595353/USled-coalition-aircraft-drop-food-medicine-to-Daesh-remnants-in-western-Iraq-Report

'The US-led coalition purportedly fighting the Daesh Takfiri terrorist group has reportedly dropped foodstuff and medical supplies to the remnants of the Daesh Takfiri terrorist group in Iraq’s western province of Anbar and on the border with conflict-plagued Syria.

Arabic-language al-Maalomah news agency, quoting Qusay al-Anbari, a spokesman for Iraq's Badr Organization -- a part of the Popular Mobilization Forces better known by the common word Hashd al-Sha’abi, reported on Monday that Daesh terrorists are hiding in the heart of Anbar desert area, and could only be reached by US-led military helicopters.

The report then cited locals, requesting not to be named, as saying that they have seen US-led coalition aircraft dropping food and medicine to the Daesh Takfiris. Back on February 17, local sources, requesting anonymity, told Syria’s official news agency SANA that US-led military helicopters had landed in the Dashisha area of Syria’s eastern province of Hasakah as well as Hajin town in Dayr al-Zawr province, and transported dozens of Daesh commanders and militants to unknown locations following a deal.

The sources added that the extremists, in return, directed the US-led forces to their caches of stolen gold east of Shaddadi town.

SANA, citing information received from local residents, reported on November 13 last year that American helicopters had evacuated several Daesh terrorists from the village of al-Suwayda in Hasakah to an unknown location.

The US-led coalition has been conducting airstrikes and operations against what are said to be Daesh targets inside Syria since September 2014 without any authorization from the Damascus government or a United Nations mandate.

The military alliance has repeatedly been accused of targeting and killing civilians. It has also been largely incapable of achieving its declared goal of destroying Daesh.'

Syria locals give Russia hint on false-flag chemical attack
http://www.presstv.com/Detail/2019/05/17/596179/false-flag-chemical-Idlib-Syria

'Militants from the Jabhat Fateh al-Sham Takfiri terrorist group, formerly known as al-Nusra Front, are reportedly preparing for a chemical attack in Syria's northwestern province of Idlib to implicate Russia's air force, the Russian Defense Ministry says.

The ministry's Center for Syrian Reconciliation said in a statement released on Friday that it had received information on the matter from the local residents of the northwestern city of Saraqib.

The sources added that the extremists are planning to film the alleged poisoning of civilians next to the fragments of Russian munitions later on, and subsequently publish the video on social media networks or hand it over to Western media outlets to create the false notion that Russian fighter jets have targeted residential neighborhoods in the area with chemical weapons. On April 23, local sources, requesting not to be named, told Syria’s official news agency SANA that Jabhat Fateh al-Sham terrorists and Western-backed White Helmets, who have been accused of cooperating with Takfiri militants and staging false-flag gas attacks, were preparing to stage chemical attacks in Idlib province as well as the west-central province of Hama.

Speaking during a press briefing in the Russian capital Moscow on April 18, Russia’s Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova warned that White Helmets and Jabhat Fateh al-Sham terrorists were “preparing for further provocations aimed at accusing the legitimate government in Syria of using poisonous substances.”

The United States has warned it would respond to any possible chemical weapons attack by Syrian government forces with retaliatory strikes, stressing that the attacks would be stronger than those conducted by American, British and French forces last year.'

Syria warns US-Turkey safe zone deal is a plot for “expansionist ambitions”

'After three days of intense negotiations in Ankara, US and Turkish officials reached an agreement on Wednesday to create a joint operations center and set up a safe zone east of the Euphrates in north eastern Syria. Deal details have not yet been disclosed.

This last minute deal between Washington and Ankara is in response to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’sannouncement on Sunday that Turkey was prepared to carry out a unilateral cross-border operation to push back Kurdish militias on the Syrian Turkish border east of the Euphrates river, if the Washington didn’t cut ties with the Kurdish militias and create a safe zone in northern Syria.

The two NATO allies agreed that the Turkish based joint operations center would be created as soon as possible to address Turkey’s security concerns.  The safe zone would become a “peace corridor”, and efforts would be made so that Syrian refugees could return home.

However, wanting peace is just a front for Erdogan’s true motives. The Syrian government categorically rejects the deal as a blatant attack on Syria’s territorial sovereignty and warns of Erdogan’s real reasons for establishing a so-called safe-zone on Syrian soil.
The Syrian Foreign Ministry

On Thursday an official Syrian source at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs told SANA "Syria expresses categorical rejection of the agreement announced by the US and Turkish occupations on establishing the so-called [safe zone] which constitutes a blatant aggression against the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Syrian Arab Republic and a flagrant violation of the principles of international law and the UN Charter."

Turkey is using the excuse of protecting its borders against the US-backed Kurdish People's Protection Units (YPG) and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) who Turkey views as the Syrian branch of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), to fulfill its long-term mission of expanding its territory by invading and balkanizing its sovereign neighbor.

Many nations including the United States, who designated the PKK as a terrorist group in 1997, and Turkey who has been in conflict with the PKK since their inception in 1984, consider them to be a terrorist organization.

Another Turkish goal is to replace the indigenous diverse ethnic population in northern Syrian with extremists that are sympathetic to Erdogan, like we have seen in Afrin and other towns on Turkey’s border in northern Syria.

Erdogan’s plans for invasion and annexation will put Christian minorities in danger, some of whom can trace their lineage back to the original inhabitants of this land. However, Kurdish militias have also targeted them by using forced conscription and other Daesh-like intimidation tactics. The Kurdish Connection: Israel, ISIS And U.S. Efforts To Destabilize Iran explains more about how Kurdish militias have been used by the US to achieve their own objectives in the Middle East.

A statement issued by the Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs states "This agreement has very clearly exposed the US-Turkish partnership in the aggression against Syria which serves the interest of the Israeli occupation entity and the Turkish expansionist ambitions and it unequivocally exposed the misleading and evasiveness which govern the policies of the Turkish regime."

“Syria calls on the Arab people to be aware of the dangers of the expansionist ambitions of the Turkish regime which is spreading the killing and chaos in different parts of the Arab world from Syria to Libya and the Sudan and it will not stop till it will satisfy its illusions on reviving the Ottoman Sultanate,” the source said.

The Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs representative concluded by saying that “Syria calls on the international community and the UN to condemn the US-Turkish flagrant aggression which constitutes a dangerous escalation and poses a threat to peace and security in the region and the world and hinders all positive efforts for finding a solution to the crisis in Syria.”

Jeez. One can't even support any ally. You never know when the US will turn their back on them. And then why have any enemies? They'll be an ally next week. Except for one country that never changes status. That attacks US warships and conducts terrorism. And has walls.

Russia and China Veto Unacceptable SC Resolution on Syria
http://stephenlendman.org/2019/09/russia-and-china-veto-unacceptable-sc-resolution-on-syria/

'War in Syria was launched preemptively by the Obama regime in March 2011 — no end of it in prospect because Trump regime hardliners reject resolution.

There’s nothing remotely civil about naked aggression against a sovereign state threatening no one — aiming to replace overwhelming popular Bashar al-Assad with pro-Western puppet rule.

The road to Tehran runs through Damascus. US strategy involves deposing Assad, gaining control of Syria, and isolating Iran — ahead of stepped up efforts to topple its government, gain another imperial trophy, and unchallenged regional control, along with Israel as a junior partner.

At the behest of Washington, Germany, Belgium and Kuwait introduced an unacceptable Security Council draft resolution — hostile to efforts by Russian and Syrian forces to liberate Idlib province from US-supported terrorists.

Because of its unacceptable provisions (demanded by the US and its imperial allies), Russia and China vetoed it.

An equitable Sino/Russian resolution failed to pass — the US, Britain, France, and its SC proxies voting against it.'

Using Forged Emails, “Progressive” Journalists Smear Their Own for Challenging Syria Groupthink

'Three American journalists decided to do what many of their colleagues have done since the outbreak of the proxy war on the Syrian government: they traveled to the war-torn country to report what’s happening from the ground. But unlike the reporters who have made a name for themselves traipsing through some of the oldest cities in the world recently put under occupation by a miscellany of jihadist groups, these three journalists reported from areas under the control of the government.

For the industry of experts and journalists giving media cover to Syria’s jihadist insurgency, the three of them had once again crossed a line. And so the campaign to deplatform journalists Rania Khalek, Max Blumenthal, and Anya Parampil was renewed, beginning with false accusations that the trip was financed by the Syrian government.

Blumenthal, editor of The Grayzone, told MintPress News why he went to Syria in the first place:

Quote
The Western public has been subjected for eight years to an industrial-grade information war designed to sabotage their critical faculties and inculcate support for military interventions, proxy wars and economic sanctions.

The point is, according to Blumenthal:

Quote
To break the information blockade by going on the ground in countries targeted for regime change and ripping the curtain off of elaborate regime-change propaganda constructs. I accepted an invitation to attend the General Trade Union Forum in Syria with that mission in mind, and was able to go off on my own for several days in and around Damascus and hear from actual Syrians about their experiences during the war and how the escalating U.S. economic war was darkening their future.

At this point, the military conflict is virtually over, but U.S. sanctions are doing enormous damage to working class Syrians, while failing to scathe the government and its inner circle.”

Behind the campaign to silence these critical, anti-war journalists was the same cast of characters that have become notorious in progressive circles for the viciousness of their attacks — attacks against Khalek and Blumenthal in particular, but also against anyone willing to come out against regime change in Syria.'

Syria says US, Turkish troops must withdraw 'immediately'

'Syria has demanded the immediate withdrawal of all foreign forces from its territories and stated that it reserves the right to take action if they remain inside the country.

United States and Turkey maintain an illegal military presence in northern Syria," Foreign Minister Walid al-Muallem said in his address to the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on Saturday "Any foreign forces operating in our territories without our authorisation are occupying forces and should withdraw immediately," he said. Syria's devastating eight-year civil war has drawn numerous foreign militaries and thousands of foreign fighters battling for power.

While most of the country has been retaken by the government, armed rebels still hold Idlib in the northwest, and the oil-rich northeast, which is held by US-backed Kurdish groups.

The Invisible New Roman Empire has just done this : .....

But then again, I recall that it is to be the pheonix. This New Roman Empire will burn in the megatons of rapture, allowing a New Roman Empire to arise from those flames in the EU.

The day after the deed, evey single nuclear power will deny it participated in its destruction, when in fact all of them took part.

‘Foreign Policy is in Shambles’: Colin Powell Unloads on Trump and the Republican Party
By Charlie Nash
Oct 6th, 2019, 3:15 pm

Former Secretary of State and retired four-star U.S. Army General Colin Powell described foreign policy under President Donald Trump as “in shambles,” in an interview with CNN’s Fareed Zakaria Sunday.
...

Powell concluded, “The [CIA] media has a role to play, we all have a role to play, you’ve got to remember that all these pieces are a part of our government. Executive branch, Congress, Supreme Court, and of the Fourth Estate, and we’ve got to remember that the Constitution started with, ‘We the People,’ not ‘Me the President.'”

Mike Pence Presidency: Neocons and GOP Suits Salivating for Return to Bush-Style Foreign Policy

'As Congress lurches towards impeachment, <a href="https://www.forbes.com/sites/lisettevoytko/2019/10/02/heres-everyone-whos-been-subpoenaed-in-the-impeachment-inquiry/#39e5028066d7" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">complete with Cabinet-level subpoenas, the specter of a Mike Pence presidency looms larger.

But let’s face it: Whether it’s in 2024 or sooner, President Pence in the Oval Office would be a dream come true for establishment Republicans and war hawk neocons alike. Trump-style “America First” nationalism would be dead on arrival, in its place the zombified corpse of globalism.

During the run up to the 2016 election, the media criticized Trump’s choice of Pence as hypocritical. Trump had famously broke with Republican orthodoxy when he called the Iraq war “a disaster.” He never missed an opportunity to deride Hillary Clinton for her support of the 2003 invasion. But Trump <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2016/07/17/politics/donald-trump-iraq-war-vote-mike-pence-hillary-clinton/index.html" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">didn’t seem to mind that his choice for vice president had also voted for the war. Huh?

That’s because Trump sees the presidency as a one-man band, and he prefers to <a href="https://www.politico.com/story/2019/09/19/trump-presidency-aides-white-house-1502041" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">lead it in the same style as the Trump organization, unshackled by the past policy positions of aides. Pence looks straight out of “central casting,” Trump has been heard to say of his veep. For Trump, advisers are mostly decorative, and Pence is a vice president a Hollywood director might choose for a second-rate film.

Unlike Trump, Pence is not a newcomer to government. He has a lengthy record as both a U.S. Congressman and Governor of Indiana, highlighting why he has been described as “<a href="https://www.newsweek.com/trump-and-pence-are-totally-odds-over-foreign-policy-508742" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">a hawk’s hawk.” Pence didn’t just vote for the war in Iraq; he went all in, supporting increases in defense spending, the export of “American values” style exceptionalism around the globe, and a resolution to delay a set-date for troop withdrawals from Iraq until the nation-building phase was complete.

Pence has advocated for U.S. military intervention in Syria, an icier relationship with Russia, and stronger support for NATO. Pence touts his Congressional record as one of the most <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2016/07/17/us/politics/mike-pence-conservative-abortion.html" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">conservative lawmakers in the country, and likes to <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/acts-of-faith/wp/2016/07/14/pence-defines-himself-as-a-christian-above-all-else-do-christians-want-him-for-vp/?utm_term=.b632516f3032" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">describes himself as “a Christian, a conservative and a Republican, in that order.”

As vice president, Pence has continued to burnish his neocon bona fides. <a href="https://www.atlanticcouncil.org/blogs/new-atlanticist/mike-pence-stands-up-for-nato-but-is-that-enough/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">He has praised NATO throughout the Trump presidency, and continues to stress its importance on the international stage, even as allies feel he’s not on the same page as his boss.'

Scientific paper arguing Assad not responsible for Syria chemical attack shelved after Bellingcat-led backlash

The report, authored by MIT professor emeritus Theodore Postol and six other experts, concludes that the Syrian government was not behind the alleged sarin attack which killed more than 80 people at Khan Sheikhoun in April 2017.

Experts warned at the time that responsibility could not be so quickly determined, but that did not stop US President Donald Trump from launching 59 cruise missiles at a Syrian airbase in response. He was widely praised for the swift action, with even liberal media and his usual ‘resistance’ critics fawning over the display of military might.

A new study disputing the findings of US intelligence and UN investigators was due to be published in the Princeton University-based Science & Global Security (SGS) — but is mysteriously being held back following an “independent internal review of the editorial process” which threw up unidentified “issues” with the peer-review and revision process.

It appears that the so-called issues were only discovered after the journal came under a barrage of public criticism for daring to publish an alternative view. In a note on the front page of its website, the journal’s editors said “questions have been asked” of its decision to publish the report, which prompted the review. The Khan Sheikhoun attack — and who was behind it — has been hotly disputed over the last two years, with anyone daring to question the mainstream narrative labelled an “Assad apologist.”

Yet, the “only thing” that should matter is whether the report is “technically correct,” Postol told RT after the journal decided to halt publication. “This is a science based journal, and if there [are] any technical errors in it, they need to point them out," he said, adding the criticisms are coming “from people who have no technical expertise.”'

Trump not withdrawing troops from Syria - only the area where Turkey has been given the go ahead to target the Kurds and open the way for an ISIS revival

'The Pentagon said Monday it does not endorse a Turkish operation in northern Syria, and that U.S. troops would not support or be involved in such an operation.

The statement from the Pentagon follows Sunday’s White House announcement that U.S. troops would withdraw from northeastern Syrian ahead of a potential Turkish military incursion to rout out Kurdish militants.

A senior administration official told reporters Monday that Sunday’s announcement did not constitute a full U.S. withdrawal from Syria and that only 50 to 100 U.S. special operations forces were moving to other locations in Syria.

The official explained that Trump’s decision to move the special operators out of the zone of a potential Turkish operation was done to protect troops and keep them out of the crossfire.

Those troops are moving to more secure areas over the next several days, the official said.

“The Department of Defense made clear to Turkey — as did the president — that we do not endorse a Turkish operation in Northern Syria," Jonathan Hoffman, the chief Pentagon spokesman said. “The U.S. armed forces will not support, or be involved in any such operation.”

Turkey’s potential invasion of northern Syria threatens a resurgence of Islamic State fighters in the region.'
