UN votes 128-9 to declare US recognition of Jerusalem as Israel's capital 'null and void' - with Britain among those who went AGAINST Trump
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-5202459/Erdogans-warning-vote-Jerusalem.html

'The UN General Assembly has voted 128 to 9 to adopt a motion rejecting the US decision to recognise Jerusalem as Israel's capital.

That is despite the US President threatening to cut billions of dollars in aid to countries that dared to defy him.

The UK was among those countries to vote against Trump, putting further pressure on the 'special relationship' after the pair got into a war of words when Trump retweeted several Britain First videos earlier this month.

May and Trump did speak on the phone over the Jerusalem issue after Britain opposed America in a similar vote which took place yesterday.

Downing Street admitted after the call that the leaders had taken 'different positions'. There was no mention of the Britain First videos during the call, according to a transcript released by Number 10.

Trump had said ahead of the vote that 'we're watching' the outcome, while Nikki Haley, his representative, had warned that the US would be 'taking names'.

Seven countries - Guatemala, Honduras, Togo, Micronesia, Nauru, Palau and the Marshall Islands - joined Israel and the United States in opposing the measure.

Among the 35 countries that abstained were Argentina, Australia, Canada, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Latvia, Mexico, the Philippines, Romania and Rwanda.

Ukraine, which supported the draft resolution at the Security Council, was among 21 countries that did not turn up for the vote.'

UK says Jerusalem al-Quds should be Palestine and Israel's shared capital

http://www.presstv.com/Detail/2018/01/08/548242/Palestine-Israel-UK-Boris-Johnson-Jerusalem-alQuds-capital-Trump

'The British government has once again expressed its full support of Palestinians’ share of Jerusalem al-Quds, over a month after US President Donald Trump announced its highly contentious decision on recognizing the entire flashpoint city as Israel's “capital.”

According to a statement released by the UK Foreign Office, the country’s Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson made the comments in speaking with his Palestinian counterpart Riyad al-Malki on Monday.

“It should be determined in a negotiated settlement between the Israelis and the Palestinians, and Jerusalem [al-Quds] should ultimately be the shared capital of” the Palestinian state and the Israeli regime, said Johnson.

Trump sparked international outrage on December 6 by declaring that the White House was recognizing the whole city as the “capital” of Israel and that he had instructed his administration to begin the process of moving the American embassy from Tel Aviv to the holy city.

The entire Jerusalem al-Quds is currently under Israel’s control, while the regime also claims the city’s eastern part, which hosts the third holiest Muslim site. The city has been designated as “occupied” under international law since the 1967 Arab War, which Palestinians want as the capital of their future state.

“I reiterated the UK’s commitment to supporting the Palestinian people and the two-state solution, the urgent need for renewed peace negotiations, and the UK’s clear and longstanding position on the status of Jerusalem,” the British top diplomat further said on Monday.'

‘Symbolic move, huge benefits’: Romania to relocate its Israel embassy to Jerusalem
http://www.rt.com/news/424633-romania-jerusalem-embassy-move/

'The Romanian government has adopted a memorandum to officially transfer the country’s embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, according to the leader of the ruling Social Democratic Party.

“Romania is moving its embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. The move has already begun, a memorandum has been approved,” the head of the ruling Social Democratic Party, Liviu Dragnea, told Romanian TV channel ANTENA 3. “We basically pretended the embassy was in Tel Aviv, but practically all of the work was at Jerusalem.”

Dragnea noted that the decision has a “huge symbolic value” for bilateral relations with Israel, where some 500,000 Romanians found their new home. According to the politician, relocation of the country's embassy is a “huge opportunity” that will bring “some very short, medium and long-term benefits.” Spam_A Spam_B The news of Romania’s decision was not welcomed by the Palestinians, who consider East Jerusalem the capital of their future state, along the 1967 borders. “Such a step would constitute a violation of the rights of the Palestinians and would be contrary to international resolutions,” Palestinian Authority Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah said on Thursday, after meeting the Romanian representative. He added that the transfer of the Romanian embassy would “further remove the chances for peace.”

Palestinian-Israeli tensions have reached an all-time high after December 6, when US President Donald Trump announced his decision to recognize Jerusalem as the state capital of Israel and ordered the relocation of US embassy there. Almost daily violence has engulfed the Palestinian territories, which have a massive support from their Arab League neighbors. Israel, in response, continues to suppress protesters using live ammunition, armed vehicles, tear gas, rubber bullets and stun grenades.'
