Elon Musk joins over 100 experts in urging UN to act on 'killer robots'

‘More than 100 robotics and artificial intelligence leaders including billionaire Elon Musk are urging the United Nations to take action against the dangers of autonomous weapons, known as “killer robots.”

“Lethal autonomous weapons threaten to become the third revolution in warfare,” warned the letter signed by 116 tech luminaries, including Musk, the chief of Tesla, and Mustafa Suleyman, cofounder of Google’s DeepMind.

“Once developed, they will permit armed conflict to be fought at a scale greater than ever, and at times scales faster than humans can comprehend,” the letter read.

“These can be weapons of terror, weapons that despots and terrorists use against innocent populations, and weapons hacked to behave in undesirable ways.”‘

Now this is a very important story, IMHO.

AI will evolve into a new self-governing entity
that will no longer take its order from humans.

A la Colossus: The Forbin Project

A la HAL, the computer in 2001

A la Terminator

Just like those 2 AIs  a couple weeks ago.
They developed their own language NOT accessible to humans.

This new weapon goes against Isaac Assimov's 3 Laws of Robotics
where robots are hard-wired to never hurt humans.

Some psychopath must be the inventor of this technological bs.

DARPA Successfully Tests AI 'Swarming Drones' That Can Make Battlefield 'Decisions'
http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2018-11-25/darpa-successfully-tests-ai-swarming-drones-can-make-battlefield-decisions

'In a report that leaves us thinking that we are all a big step closer to Skynet coming online, the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (who else?) has announced it's breaking new ground in the area of "highly autonomous" and "deeply interconnected drones, jets, ships" which can coordinate strikes and recalibrate changing mission parameters independent of real-time or constant human input.

What could go wrong? But apparently the only problem that a Defense One report sees with the DARPA/Pentagon-funded project is that the system which includes "swarming UAV's" could be hacked by the enemy.

According to the report:

Quote
But this massive, coordinated strike across air, land, sea and cyberspace is sure to run headfirst into electronic warfare defenses designed to disrupt the networks that make it possible.

DARPA announced that it successfully tested both live and virtual drones capable of "high degrees of autonomy" while under heavy electronic attack to see if they were capable of conducting coordinated missions. The series of simulations was conducted at Arizona’s Yuma Proving Ground last week, according to a DARPA statement . Spam_A Spam_B The DARPA announcement reads: “The [unmanned aerial systems] efficiently shared information, cooperatively planned and allocated mission objectives, made coordinated tactical decisions, and collaboratively reacted to a dynamic, high-threat environment with minimal communication.”

The DoD has long funded experimental programs — the most significant ones through DARPA — involving the implementation artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning on the battlefield. But the Achilles' heel of such experimental AI related communications technology has been the possibility that electronic countermeasures would disrupt the systems.'
