EP President Tajani tweets then deletes pledge to veto Brexit deal

European Parliament President Antonio Tajani on Monday sent out a tweet backing a pledge by senior MEPs to veto any Brexit deal if the U.K. doesn’t improve its offer on citizens’ rights.

Within minutes, Tajani’s tweet had been deleted and a replacement posted with “veto” changed to “vote against.”

Tajani was backing a letter written by top European lawmakers — including Manfred Weber of the European People’s Party, Guy Verhofstadt of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats, and Gianni Pittella of the Socialists and Democrats — that threatened to veto a Brexit deal if the current “damp squib” of an offer isn’t improved.

Tajani’s original tweet read: “The European Parliament’s priority is safeguarding rights of 3m EU citizens. UK proposal inadequate. If it doesn’t change, we’re willing to veto.”

That rights demand is ludicrous, its a direct challenge on sovereignty.
Its descending into a blame game, with the winner being the first one to sabotage Brexit.

Euro-judge warns of unpleasant Brexit surprise from European Court

By Gareth Icke on 12 July 2017
https://www.davidicke.com/article/419145/euro-judge-warns-unpleasant-brexit-surprise-european-court

‘The British Government has seriously underestimated the risk of a bombshell ruling by the European Court of Justice that could block any Brexit settlement and leave the UK facing a cliff-edge departure, a former top judge has warned.

Such an impasse could occur even if there is a political deal agreed amicably between London and Brussels. The consequences would be grave if the British state has not prepared an emergency fall-back response well in advance.

The terms of Article 50 come under the jurisdiction of Luxembourg. “Any agreement between the EU and the UK can be referred to the European Court and must be compatible with EU law,” said Professor Sir David Edward, a former judge at the ECJ.’

Theresa May's Government could 'come apart like a chocolate orange' over Brexit, watchdog chief warns

BY ANDREW CHEETHAM ON 13 JULY 2017 GMT POLITICAL MANIPULATION,  UK NEWS
https://www.davidicke.com/article/419196/theresa-mays-government-come-apart-like-chocolate-orange-brexit-watchdog-chief-warns

‘Theresa May’s Government is putting a successful Brexit at risk by failing to show “active and energetic” leadership, the head of the National Audit Office has warned.

In an unprecedented intervention Sir Amyas Morse said Whitehall departments are being left to “struggle on their own” with the challenges of Brexit because of a failure of leadership and direction.

He said the Government could “come apart like a chocolate orange” unless departments are given more support, as he warned Mrs May that Brexit poses the “biggest challenge” since the Second World War.

Departments should not be left to decide which of the many projects they are in charge of to prioritise by themselves, the head of the financial watchdog added.’

Labour threatens to BLOCK Brexit as Keir Starmer puts Theresa May 'on notice' he will vote against her 'great repeal bill' unless she makes sweeping changes

BY ANDREW CHEETHAM ON 13 JULY 2017
https://www.davidicke.com/article/419211/labour-threatens-block-brexit-keir-starmer-puts-theresa-may-notice-will-vote-great-repeal-bill-unless-makes-sweeping-changes

‘Theresa May faces the prospect of a humiliating Commons defeat on her ‘great repeal bill’ after Labour said their MPs would not back it unless she made sweeping changes.

Shadow Brexit secretary Keir Starmer said last night he was putting the Prime Minister ‘on notice’ of the changes he said needed to be made, including on workers’ rights and parliamentary scrutiny.

Mrs May publishes her key bill today and MPs will vote on it in the autumn, but Sir Keir is threatening to exploit the government’s small majority knowing that if Labour were joined by a handful of rebel Tory MPs, the Bill would be defeated.

Mrs May’s Bill, properly titled the European Union (withdrawal) Bill, is a key step towards Brexit as it will transpose EU law into UK law.

Sir Keir demanded concessions to the plans in six areas, including ensuring workers’ rights in the UK do not fall behind those in the EU, incorporating the European Charter of Fundamental Rights into UK law and limiting the scope of so-called ‘Henry VIII powers’, which could allow the Government to alter legislation without full parliamentary scrutiny.’

This is exactly why a hung parliament was a good result. Corbyn should use his position, and the weakness of May, to curb any reactionary excesses which the tories would otherwise impose in a post-Brexit scenario. Some of those pesky workers rights, for example, are exactly what the tory donors want removed. If there is going to be Brexit, then let it be something which actually benefits the average person; returning full powers to the degenerate British establishment, to do as they please, would be a massive step backwards imo.

Brexit followed by Corbyn in No 10 would put UK flat on its back – Tony Blair
Former Labour prime minister issues warning in lengthy article published by his own political institute
https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2017/jul/15/brexit-followed-by-corbyn-put-uk-flat-on-back-tony-blair

Tony Blair has warned that the combination of Brexit followed by a Jeremy Corbyn government would soon leave Britain “flat on our back”, arguing that a deeply divided country needs a fundamental rethink of its political ideas.

In another demonstration of his partial return to domestic politics, the former prime minister praised Corbyn’s performance in the general election, but argued that greater scrutiny of the Labour leader’s policies could derail the next campaign. In a lengthy article released by his own political institute, the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change, Blair said an “unchanged Corbyn programme” introduced at the same time as Brexit would prove disastrous for the country.

“If a rightwing populist punch in the form of Brexit was followed by a leftwing populist punch in the form of unreconstructed hard-left economics, Britain would hit the canvas, flat on our back and be out for a long count,” he wrote.

Blair warned the party he led for 13 years that, however unexpectedly good the party’s showing in the 8 June election, it could not automatically expect victory soon. “The Labour party should be cautious in thinking ‘one more heave’ will deliver victory next time,” Blair said. “The Corbyn campaign was a positive factor in the election result; but the determining factor was the Tory campaign.

“The Corbyn enthusiasm, especially amongst the young, is real, but I would hesitate before saying that all those who voted Labour voted to make him prime minister, or that they supported the body of the programme rather than its tone. I think they thought that the likelihood was that the Tories would be the government, but were determined to neuter the mandate.”

In the next election, Labour’s economic policies “will come under vastly greater scrutiny”, Blair warned. However, he conceded he “did not foresee” the Labour gains made in the election, and hailed Corbyn’s role in this.

“I pay tribute to Jeremy Corbyn’s temperament in the campaign, to the campaign’s mobilisation of younger voters, and to the enthusiasm it generated,” he said. “His supporters shouldn’t exaggerate it; but his critics, including me, shouldn’t understate it. He tapped into something real and powerful, as Bernie Sanders has in the USA and left groups have done all over Europe.”

Much of the article concerned Blair’s continued opposition to Brexit, which he has previously called on remain-minded voters to seek to overturn.

Along with the comments, Blair’s institute has released polling conducted on its behalf which shows, among other findings, that the majority of Britons are split on whether they would like a so-called soft or hard Brexit. “The British people’s attitude to Europe is ambivalent,” Blair said. “They do think Brexit means Brexit and, for now, there is no groundswell for a second referendum.

“But they want a strong relationship with Europe. A majority oppose hard Brexit. The opposition to free movement of people, once you break it down, is much more nuanced.”

Overall, he concludes, the UK “is deeply divided – between young and old, metropolitan and outside the cities, better off and worse off”.

Tony Blair says Brexit can be stopped if UK leaders realise the EU will 'meet us halfway'

BY ANDREW CHEETHAM ON 15 JULY 2017
https://www.davidicke.com/article/419451/tony-blair-says-brexit-can-stopped-uk-leaders-realise-eu-will-meet-us-halfway

‘Brexit can still be stopped if Britain’s leaders realise EU officials are prepared to “meet us halfway” on restricting the free movement of people, Tony Blair has said in his first intervention since the general election.

While the former Labour Prime Minister admitted there is “no groundswell” for a second referendum on membership of the EU, Mr Blair said it is possible that the will of the British people could change as the public becomes more aware of the potential economic damage of hard Brexit.

He also appeared sceptical of a “soft Brexit”, which would mean Britain remaining in the single market and the customs union, adding the political difficulties are evident. “It would lead in short order to a scratch of the British collective head and feeling of ‘oh well, in that case, what’s the point of leaving?”.’

City of London accuses France of plot to ‘wreck Britain’ – even if it gains nothing itself

BY ANDREW CHEETHAM ON 16 JULY 2017
https://www.davidicke.com/article/419578/city-london-accuses-france-plot-wreck-britain-even-gains-nothing

‘France has boasted to City of London chiefs that it will use Brexit to sabotage the British economy, according to a bombshell leaked memo.

The memo, sent to Ministers, says the French government and banking chiefs are plotting to ‘actively disrupt and destroy’ the UK’s multi-billion-pound financial sector when Britain leaves the EU – even if France gains nothing.

The missive blames the ‘giddy’ effect of newly elected President Emmanuel Macron for an ‘assertive collective endeavour’ to wreck the City, which is worth £66 billion a year to the Treasury in tax receipts – around half of the entire budget for NHS England.

The memo was written after the City of London’s Brexit envoy – former Home Office Minister Jeremy Browne – held talks in Paris earlier this month at the French finance ministry, state-owned Banque de France, the French Senate and the British Embassy. He met banking chiefs, senior politicians and diplomats.’

Tony Blair admits Jeremy Corbyn could be Britain’s next PM

BY ANDREW CHEETHAM ON 18 JULY 2017 GMT
https://www.davidicke.com/article/419831/tony-blair-admits-jeremy-corbyn-britains-next-pm

‘Former Labour Prime Minister Tony Blair has now conceded it is possible Jeremy Corbyn could lead the party to victory and become Britain’s next leader.

Blair fell short of endorsing Corbyn ahead of the June 8 general election, making known his hostility to the party’s leftward turn.

However, in view of recent political events, such as the election of Donald Trump, the Brexit vote, and Corbyn’s shock election success, stripping the Tories of their majority in the House of Commons, Blair has now admitted there is a chance the current Labour leader could take office.

“I accept now what if you’d asked me a year ago I’d have said is impossible, I accept is possible. You have to say in today’s world now, there’s been so many political upsets it’s possible Jeremy Corbyn could become prime minister and Labour could win on that program,” Blair told BBC Newsnight editor Ian Katz.

Blair, who led Labour for 13 years and was elected into Downing Street three times, said he is yet to get to grips with the new political reality.’

Bliar is still in denial about Brexit, a fact which he seems to admit, from above article:

"Blair, who led Labour for 13 years and was elected into Downing Street three times, said he is yet to get to grips with the new political reality.’

Or, more likely, he is playing his role as instructed. There are few politicians who can really galvanize opinion in the way that Blair can - by simply stating a position against something he will harden millions of minds in favor of it.

As I have said before, my view is that Brexit, like Trump, is an establishment operation under anti-establishment cover.

Vince Cable says hard Brexit 'can be stopped' upon becoming Lib Dem leader

BY ANDREW CHEETHAM ON 21 JULY 2017 GMT
https://www.davidicke.com/article/420255/vince-cable-says-hard-brexit-can-stopped-upon-becoming-lib-dem-leader

‘The new Liberal Democrat leader has called on pro-EU Conservative MPs to show courage and fight a hard Brexit, saying: “This process can be stopped.”

Sir Vince Cable told The Independent he believed many Tories were “holding their fire” and could be persuaded to join a cross-party campaign to force Theresa May to change course.

“The question is how many will be sufficiently courageous and forthright to come out,” he said, just moments after being crowned leader.

“We will give leadership on this issue. We will reach out to them [MPs], left and right.

“But it’s up to them as to whether they are willing to stand up and fight. If they are willing to, then this process can be stopped and the damage can be massively reduced.”’

Tory members 'want Theresa May to quit by Christmas' as David Davis eyed as possible successor

BY ANDREW CHEETHAM ON 23 JULY 2017 GMT
https://www.davidicke.com/article/420519/tory-members-want-theresa-may-quit-christmas-david-davis-eyed-possible-successor

‘Grassroots members of the Conservative Party have called for Theresa May to quit by Christmas as dissenters eye David Davis as a possible replacement for the Prime Minister.

A survey seen by The Observer found the majority of Tory members either could not choose a successor to Ms May, supporting the belief of many commentators that a relative unknown could step out of the party’s shadows to become leader.

The majority of those surveyed do not want Ms May to stand down, with just 22 per cent calling on her to quit and 71 per cent saying she should stay on as leader, fearful of the possibility of a general election.

But the Sunday Telegraph reported that “leading voices” among Tory activists fear the Prime Minister will be unable to recover her authority following the general election, weakening the UK’s position in Brexit negotiations.’

'Brexiteers will eventually want another vote' Delusional Cable outlines plan 'to SAVE UK'

https://www.davidicke.com/article/420665/brexiteers-will-eventually-want-another-vote-delusional-cable-outlines-plan-save-uk

‘Sir Vince Cable was accused of patronising Brexit voters this morning after saying Britons “did not realise what they were voting for – they would not have voted to be poorer”.

Sir Vince Cable has condemned the Brexit vote as a mistake and vowed to put the referendum again to the British people.

The recently-elected MP won the Liberal Democrat leadership this week after he faced no challengers in his bid for the party title.

Speaking to Sky News this morning, the new party leader said more and more people were seeking “an exit from Brexit”.’

Brexit: Vince Cable says there is a 'significant possibility' it still won't happen

BY JAYMIE ICKE ON 17 AUGUST 2017 GMT UK NEWS
https://www.davidicke.com/article/423390/brexit-vince-cable-says-significant-possibility-still-wont-happen

‘Sir Vince Cable has said he still believes there is a “significant possibility” that Brexit will not happen.

The Liberal Democrat leader told an audience at the Edinburgh International Book Festival that he stood by the view that the UK might not leave the European Union (EU).

Sir Vince said a combination of the politics of Brexit “unravelling” and the “sheer practical difficulties” could stop UK Government plans to leave the bloc.’

Vince Cable is right - there is a chance that Brexit will not go ahead, and I think he's also right that many people who voted for Brexit would not do so if they had their time again, or if they had another chance.

I have previously said that Brexit is an establishment operation to discredit nationalism in the UK and Europe, and for Brexit to have its desired effect, it must be put into effect. However it is possible that the Brexit effect can be obtained without an actual Brexit, although I still think that an actual Brexit will be required.
